I didn't even know about this until I started looking at the reviews for the game on a few sites.
IGN's read comments on the review:

From a business perspective, it's not hard to see why they're treating the PC gamers as second-class. Sucks for the PC gamers but really, there's no real reason for them to spend the coin on that version

They're crying because the developer chose not to let PCs hack and mod the crap out of their game, boo-hoo?
Being someone who played CoD:World at War on the PC (got it free with my last video card) I think this is a nice change. I'm sick of having to try to find a server to play on that's not full or modded out the ass with stupid rules or only playing 2 maps. As much as I love PC gaming, that was always a big turn off for me.

It seems like it's more than that, though, yeah? It sounds like it's just overall a worse experience. The maximum player count in a game is 18? What? Seriously? Shoving an inferior product in our face for a $10 mark up is pretty goddamned silly. And I get them doing it to make the console and PC versions identical but for me this game just lost a lot of appeal. I feel like customization is one of the best things available on the PC and this is pretty much a middle finger to that. Especially on top of a 20% mark up in price.
And 9v9 just sounds fucking boring.
And also, Zeus is 100% right this time around. You would be foolish to buy this on the PC if you have access to a console. Does that make a lick of sense to PC sales? Are they just trying to kill that portion of their sales even more than other factors already have? Wowza. I'm really glad I wasn't looking forward to this game.

I keep hearing this, what's so bad about 9vs9?
Every version of Modern Warfare 2 is 9vs9 Console & PC alike, every review has praised it's multiplayer, what's the problem.

For being angry about a game, they sure did buy a lot day 1. Word is around that the PC version sold 1 million copies, the Xbox 360 version sold 3.25 million, and the PS3 sold 2.75 million for a total worldwide sale across all platforms of 7 million in one day.

9v9 just doesn't sound as fun to me as 12v12 or 16v16. I enjoy the chaos of bigger games and trying to control it.
