This is what has been occupying me as of the last couple of days =)

This game finally feels like a true sequel to the 2D series. To describe it in a nutshell: it takes the best features of Super Mario Bros 1, 3, and World, and gives it some contemporary tweeking. Oh, and unlike the previous New Super Mario Brothers (which focussed on reimagining Super Mario 1), this one is surprisingly difficult.

Remember the Mario 3 bonus games? They're here too, the concentration board where you select and match cards has changed: instead of getting one extra life after clearing the board, you get to keep a copy of every item uncovered. Also from Super Mario Brothers 3 is the inventory. From Mario World comes the Yoshis.

I have only played a bit of 4 player so far, but it does indeed add a whole new level of play to the series. Certainly a VERY welcome addition to the series.

Overall, this is the first game since Mario World or Yoshis Island that feels like a worthy successor to the main 2D series.

It's excellent. I wish this had been a GC title 'cause I have a much harder time gathering three other people that will actually want to play something with me these days. Played some three-player the other night and it was a blast.

I've heard only good things from people I know irl. I'll probably pick it up at some point so the wife and I can play.

Yeah, it's a freakin' awesome game and tons of fun with multiple people. I like how it's a lot harder than the DS version.

I do have to agree with the reviews, though. It would be that much better if it had online co-op

Played it at a friend's house over a few beers on Tuesday. Very similar to the DS version but a little harder. I really liked the multi-player aspect but it can be frustrating if one person (my friend) is far better than the other person (me).

That's why you just hit A to go into a ball and then when he's past the hard part, shake the controller and let him pop you out

You don't HAVE to hit the A button.....unless you're a pansy who's used to playing the breast-fed, overly linear games on the 360 or PS3....

Again, it's a choice, not a requirement. Nothing wrong with that

I actually love the Wii for that type of thing. This is a game I want to play with my wife and even with another couple we're friends with. Me and the other guy are going to be awesome. The girls...not so much. My wife is great at puzzle games, but she's not that good at platformers. She just likes to play some because they're fun. This is a great way for us to keep playing and having a good time without her getting frustrated and stopping.

Would I want something like this in a game like Uncharted or Batman? No, but for a Mario game it's perfect.

Cut the guy a little slack, he thinks Pokemon is the top 3rd party franchise on the Wii, and couldn't even figure out how to work a DS =P

I guess that has always been my thing, i dont want to play video games with people who dont play video games. I never had as a kid and dont enjoy games that are dumbed down for people who dont know what they are doing. I see the Wii commercial where the family is playing some winter sports game on the boogie board ("Its Daaad!") and just roll my eyes, because as a kid nothing on earth would have been more painful than playing video games with my sisters or parents. Its a very solitary hobby for me for some reason, or atleast one that i only like to do with other people who understand them.

Haha, Seek, the DS said 'download play', so excuse me for thinking you could download games like a decent system should be able to do! :) I hate that thing, too, the PSP kicks its ass.

I usually don't either except when it's my wife. There are 2 reasons for that. One - I do like her company. But two - I get to play more games this way. :)

Nintendo systems are always good for party/social type games where the other people are actually with you. Just look at the Mario Kart series, Mario Party, etc.

And you never, ever have to use that function ever and play the relatively tough game all on your own. And make no mistake about it, it's right up there with Super Mario 3 in terms of difficulty. This game is for the hardcore platforming fan.

But the option is there for someone else like Lox or myself who like social gaming to have our wives, cousins, sisters, etc., play with us. We're being given a choice to play however we want. Personal biases aside, how is that a bad thing?

Errrr, not sure what I should say to this, congratlations for being a PSP fan who hates DS? Oo
