I'm sure it voids the warranty, but if Microsoft ever stops covering these things or my own grace period expires, I might have to pick this up anyway...I'm decent at electronics repair.

You've already got a bunch of 1st and 2nd year systems that are out of warranty. If you think you can handle it, it's not exactly like you'd lose anything to try.

But $29.95 for download only? A little steep. Thank the Lord for torrents :-)

Hell, no.

I ought to start a refurbished 360 business. Shit, one of us on these boards sure should - if you could really get good enough to fix most of the slagged ones that people aren't bothering to send back to MS or that are off-warranty, how much money could you make reselling them? Goddamn I say.

I'll pay them if the info's good. But, my 360 teh worx, so, I don't have the desire to go down that particular wormhole right now.

There are guys in town here who charge $40 to refurb your 360. If the book gives you enough knowledge to do that and you can fix a few a month, it's worth it. Heck, if it saves you from having to get another 360 it's worth it.

I would bet there's plenty of Youtube videos that walk you through the same process for free; that book's a total rip.

There's also gonna be copies of it in Torrents. But I think Mental feels an obligation to pay for it

Paying for things is overrated, much like not buying every 16 year old girl a pole to practice on for later.

Indeed. See, somebody WROTE that book, and needs food in order to be able to eat. When you steal his/her/their fucking work, the same as if you'd grabbed that book out of Target, run outside of the store and punched the security guard on the way out, they don't get paid, and then they can't eat. Then they maybe end up going on welfare or on the street, and *I* have to end up helping care of them.

I'm sorry to sound excessively bitchy, Zeus, but why do you steal? You wouldn't like it if someone came in your office, stole all your paperwork, got the names of your clients and started calling them with better rates and undercut your business...so why do you live off the work of others for free?

This "casual acceptance of piracy" thing by my generation is getting old. I just don't get it. I have nothing against you, but I don't understand the dishonorable nature of it all.

And, Eric, I don't wanna pay for the wretched spawn of your amateur efforts at promoting teen pregnancy across the nation and world either, though I have to say I'm laughing my ass off remembering that discussion. :D
