  • Canadians: EB has Assassin's Creed 2 for $30 on Sat only

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

In case you were on the fence about this one, Assassin's Creed 2 is gonna be only $30 on Saturday (19th) as part of their 12 days of Christmas promotion. Amazingly, the Collector's Edition is going to be the exact same price so if they have one, you may as well grab the Collector's. Get all that extra crap for free

Sold. I was getting pissed off seeing all of the awesome Amazon.com daily deals this week, but if this is true I'll be pacified.

I really want to try these but don't have time right now. Keep supporting the series for me and keep it warm for me so I can enjoy it when I finally get there. :)

Damn you, Mirror's Edge...I really need to stop flinching and feeling like I'm going to have a stroke every time I get Faith murdered or shattered into pavement bits, so I can turn on that game again, and have a hope of beating it this year or even next.

Not worth $30 in my opinion (too short, too much like AC1). And bare in mind I paid full retail.

The other thing that pisses me off, on principle, is the fact that content was sepcifically cut for inclusion into the CE edition and DLC. So if you end with the regular edition, you end up missing out of two sequences.

Maybe I'm wrong, but DLC and special editions should be about extra stuff, not getting access to shit that was originally part of the full game. Smells like a lazy cash grab to me.

Kali is wrong. This game is good.

No deadspace, though.

Care to back that up?

I finished the game in under a weekend (feathers and a few combat achievements aside). Seems pretty short to me. Game is too easy to boot, even pre-pistol. Can you deny any of that? No.

Is the game good? Well, it's AC1, tightened up slightly with fewer silly real world sequences. The only real thing added was additional weapons and a villa side game (which is pointless since the only thing you need money for is the villa, and once upgraded, you are the wealthiest bastard around). Is that good? I suppose. My point was it's not worth $30 OR $60.

Maybe you meant I was wrong on the cut content? Just look at the DNA sequences. It's obvious Ubisoft chopped it out to pad DLC, CE Edition or UPLAY...which stinks of fleecing.

Oh fuck yeah, it is. They actually have the content finished and available for launch and cut it out to charge you later for it. It's a really, really irritating trend and is a good 'ol "fuck you" to the customers. A full scenario in L4D2 released 4 or 5 months later for $5 I can understand (The Passing will be $10 which is a little steep, but I'll likely bend on that one). But when you specifically hold back stuff already included on disc to goose the players? Completely unacceptable. Sadly, this is becoming an increasing trend in downloadable games as well. Mega Man 9 had DLC right away, as did Bubble Bobble Plus. Content they held back to goose you on.

But really, we're (well, not me specifically, but gamers in general) to blame for this. We're the ones who stand up and say "it's only $4 or $5, less than a latte" and like sheep pay it. So the companies figure if they charge little enough (ie. under $10) they can almost get away with murder. Vote with your money, don't buy it regardless of price. Actually have principles and stick to them and the companies won't continue to goose you.

There is another side to this, however. If they hold content back that's already on the disc but give you a free code to download it with a new copy of the game, it ain't so bad. That's what Bioware did with Dragon Age's Stone Prisoner add-on. What they're basically saying is "buy used and you will miss out". They don't make money on used so this is an incentive to not do what I do and wait to get a used copy at 40% of the new price. You can still grab it for $15 as DLC available Day 1 but that only matters if you didn't get the game new. That I don't really blame them for and they're not really goosing their customers, their punishing the opportunists who don't give them anything anyways.

So, it's a solid title that was really fun and lasted around 10 hours or so? That's not so bad, particularly considering that many FPSs don't last that long. Sure they may have the multi modes but more people than not (like me) never play those modes. So we're getting the same amount of playtime as we would Halo 3 for half the price.

Personally, I wasn't an enormous AC1 fan. I just restarted it recently to give it another shot after getting to the point where I was on my way to Damascus the first time around last year. I thought the original was an aight game but not great. I agreed with the reviews, actually. But the way I figure it, for that price it's a cheap gamble on a game that's supposed to improve on the original. So it should be a pretty decent title. And if I hate it, I can sell it for more than I bought it for. I'm sure it'll be worth $40 in trade at EB for the next month. Hell, I could sell the set this week for about $70 or $80 on Kijiji if I so wished. I could even give it as an Xmas gift to my cuz. For that cheap? It is worth it IMO.

I'm loving it, too. The story is fantastic and the repetitiveness of the first is gone. I might get all the achievements in it, too. I only do that for games that really suck me in.

In Assassin's Creed 2, it ain't that hard. You can get over 800 just doing the normal stuff according to a few friends and cuzs of mine. Nearly everyone I know who's on my friends list that beat it has 900 or more.
