Figured it may happen but damn, that's a helluva short notice. It's coming this Monday and it's gonna be 1000 points

EDIT: sorry, I originally posted it as a remake. It's actually a sequel

I wanna read at least a review or two. As stoked as I am about a Blaster Master sequel, I don't like the sneaky releases. If movies have taught us anything, those that go unreviewed prior to release do so for a reason

Just got it, was only able to play for about 15 minutes or so but here are my inital thoughts
Music is awesome, everything so far has been a great remix of the music from the original blaster master, and all of em are incredibly well done. Challenge level seems moderate, and incentive to explore every cave area outside of the tank has been increased by being able to get upgrades to your max health, whereas in the original Blaster Master I would always skip any cave that didnt have a boss once I knew where the boss was at. First boss killed me, he was fairly tough to avoid all his attacks. The ability to save is in there, though oddly the first boss cave didn't have a save point when you got in. Anyway I cant wait to get home from work and play more.

I'm gonna grab the demo in a bit and see how it is
EDIT: nevermind, guess Nintendo was far too adverse to doing something right and canceled the demo program. Idiots...

Nice. Let them do everything in their power to make the Wii store worse. I guess that's another game I'm not buying.

Unless of course they didn't have enough people downloading the demos to consider it worth it.

Yes, it is very fun. I got that one along with Tomena Sanner which is also very fun. I probably won't get a chance to play either much until the weekend.
The free demoes were part of a Christmas season special, and only accounted for a few games. Though I would expect a more robust system if the demoes had a positive effect on game sales. Nintendo is supposed to be announcing a new platform around GDC, or at least that is what is rumoured, we'll see what that amounts to, if anything. It would be a prime time period to announce a premium package since Monster Hunter Tri is being releases in two months. With a premium package, it would make sense to provide demoes for paying customers. For now, there are many video demonstrations which show other player's discussing and playing games, and also trailers on the Nintendo channel.

Finished the first stage last night, the game is a pretty good challenge. Took me several attempts before I beat the first boss. First power-up was basicly a hookshot for the tank. You can launch it into the celing or wall to pull yourself up to areas you cant reach by jumping. I've already used it quite a bit and its a fun powerup. Area 2 has been quite chalenging, and so far all of the music has still been remixes of the music from the original game, including when I accidently stumbled into area 4. Loving the game, gonna go play some more now.

Apparently it was actually helping the sale of the games they demoed. If I'm not too lazy I'll go and find the article for you sometime.

OK, guys, the reviews are finally out.
http://www.gamerankings.com/wii/988753- ... index.html
The main issues nearly everyone has is the controls are awkward (particularly the use of the B button and even the A) and not overly responsive (I'm gonna label the complaints about the save spots as "pussy complaints"). Considering this is vital to the enjoyment of a platformer, I'm a little concerned. What are your impressions of the controls?

I honestly havent had any problems with the controls, you play with a wiimote turned sideways, and actions always seem to go off right when I hit the buttons. only thing that is really a little awkward is that the plus button is used to get out and in to the tank but anytime you are doing that you arent under attack, at least so far.

On the topic of demos.
Artcile back in November states this:
For a limited time, Wii owners will be able to download demos of some WiiWare tiles for free on the Wii Shop Channel. All that users need to do is visit the WiiWare section of the Wii Shop Channel and look for DEMO under SEARCH BY GENRE. The demos will be available to download until 31 January 2010.
This was the announcement by Nintendo; for those who misread it (Zeus). It is likely that very soon (by E3) that a more robust system will be announced.

Why a limited time? That's just stupid.

How is a trial run stupid? Trials typically last a limited time period.

That's what I was sayin'. Not only is it something that should have been there from the beginning, they're moving at a government-like pace in implementing it

I was wondering more about the strafing with the B button and how the A button is used. When the controller is sideways, those could be pretty awkward.
I'm seriously considering getting it once I'm done my blitz of games this week. I just put 15+ hours into Bioshock 2 in 2 days and have only 3 nights to get through Shadow Complex before I have to give my cuz his HDD back

It's stupid because every other console market has demos for almost every arcade game in their market, including demos for upcoming games. And the demos are permanent. (Why the hell are you even asking such a question? It seems extremely obvious to everybody else.)
Nintendo is letting a very good money maker turn to shit because of bad decisions like these.

I'm noticing these games that use the sideways controller are clearly not taking advantage of stuff like the trigger button. It's easily accessible on a sideways position, and you could potentially use that as a "shift" for other functions.

I wasn't asking a question about whether or not Nintendo should have a permanent demo system. I was asking the question of "how is a trial run stupid?" Have you never seen an open beta before? Essentially that is what this would be similar to (minus the official bug tracking system). Do you think Open Betas are stupid too? How about trial runs for other services and products.
As far as money goes, perhaps you should take a look at Nintendo's financials vs all other profitable videogame companies combined. Trust me, there is no need to worry about Nintendo's financial state.

Open Betas are generally at the 95% complete stage and are immediately followed up by a full release. If it was working, there was no point to turning down the trial. Besides, this was about 3 years too late. Nintendo should have done this from the beginning.

I wasn't talking about their financial state. In fact, their financial state has made them lazy. They think they can focus on the casual gamers and new devices, and not worry about the rest of the platform. Meanwhile, XBL and PSN has made a ton of cash that Nintendo could have gotten in on.
Just because you're profitable doesn't mean you can't be more profitable.

As far as strafing goes I haven't had any issues with it. The A button is only used to switch weapons that you are using and I have never found it an issue to keep moving or strafe away and tap the button with my other hand. Yeah it equates to a few seconds that I'm not shooting but most of the time I use it there arent any enemies on the screen or I'm in a boss battle and have to switch to the mortar real quick.

IGN review, a 6.5
http://wii.ign.com/articles/106/1069673p1.html
Two main issues the guy had:
1) Control scheme: seems to be the one constant complaint
2) LONG time between save points: guy seemed to make it a huge deal. Is it or is he just a pussy?

I am only in area 3, as I have been spending more time playing Tatsunoko, but I would say he is being a pussy on the save points. Control scheme I'm not having any problems with but thats just me.

I got used to the Jaguar's controller so I'm sure I can get used to the scheme in Overdrive.
I'll likely get it pretty soon, the major complaints won't deter me.
