Rather than a "which games are best" list, this one tries to discuss which ones have aged the best.

I couldn't tell the difference between that and a list of 'best games ever that are at least 10 years or older'.

They might as well ask what's the top 10 games you have on your emulator since most of these games would no longer be functional (battery would've been dead) in any other way.

Ocarina isn't on there, neither is FF7. Those are considered by the vast majority of gamers to be among the top 10-20 of all time but aren't on the list

My Zelda's save is still functional. Those batteries work fine if you were smart enough to delete all of the saved games before you stored them.

FF7 is the anti-thesis of aging well.

And Ocarina, as much as I love that game to death, is really starting to show its age as well. Even Metal Gear Twin Snakes is a bit aged. Late sprite-based games are still fine but early polygon ones? They're tough to play

I remember seeing one of the comments on the FF6 remake that the old SNES ages well because it lacked the technology to show you that the characters look like they're on crack when drawn by Amano since it's just sprites. When they try to remake it for the PSX you got enough polygons to tell the people look like they're on crack. I think it's the same thing with aging well. The fact is that your graphics has to be pretty ghetto so that you can just say 'oh well let's just pretend the graphics isn't there', because if it's any better you'd be reminded that the graphics totally sucks.

Besides, 2D graphics really haven't improved much since the SNES days. Yes there's cell shading and stuff, but really if you want something that looks like a sprite-based game it's not going to look much better than it did 10 years ago, so you don't have as high a standard to hold it against.

Ocarina looks fine, go fight Ganon at the end and tell me it doesn't age well! *Shakes fist*
