Amazing CPU games ive missed by having a crap comp

Since i bought an amazing machine i need some advice on what to play with it. I've been doing the Starcraft 2 beta a ton, but that will be closed soon and i will have to move on. In addition i'm playing Half-life 2 episode 1 because my laptop couldnt handle it years ago and i finished Portal. I have Bioshock on my radar as the next game i'll buy, but what else is out there? I completely forgot about Bioshock until someone mentioned it here last week, so it takes peoples advice for me to buy games.

I like FPS's and RTS's and even anything i might have to buy a gamepad for, but i dont really like military games for some reason. Modern warfare i dont want, even though i like half-life games, go figure. Maybe its the totally fiction nature of FPS that are ok.

Yeah, both Bioshocks, and both Mass Effects. I take it you got the Orange Box? Borderlands; even though the multiplayer has probably dried up, it's still a fun single player game, and there's a ton of add-ons. Fallout 3. Dragon Age. Prototype.

Not exactly requiring a high-end graphics card, but in case you missed them: Braid, World of Goo, Plants vs Zombies, Defense Grid, Audiosurf, Darwinia, P.B. Winterbottom.

Don't forget about Left 4 Dead and L4D2 although none of us play it any more and games with random people tend to suck much more often than you'd think. You know how sometimes you feel like nearly everyone in the world is an asshole? Now you need a group of four people to play the game and if you have just one asshole the game is ruined. I've found that lately you're looking at 75% of the time you will get at least one asshole.

You should probably pick up Dawn of War 2 and possibly even the gold (or whatever) edition of the original with all the expansions.

And of course Team Fortress 2.

Really just fire up Steam and get everything that looks good lol

TF2, HL2, and Portal all come with the Orange Box, so he should have already bought that.

Every game mentioned has been released on consoles, does the PC only have RTS left?! qq.

No, but if you only say you want FPS and RTS games that's what I recommend :P

The Witcher (get this if you like smart RPG game design), Alpha Protocol (this is an RPG/third person shooter that comes out next week, it's getting a console release too but why would you spend $10 more for an inferior product?), Total War (Empire, Medieval 2), Zeno Clash, Majesty 2, Hinterland.

But yeah most games get released on consoles too since a PC only business model can't be achieved if you make shitty games. If you're looking for PC only releases then you might have to utilize Google more than our memories.

Until those console nerds are smart enough to invent a device that allows you to push buttons representing various letters of the alphabet and punctuation.

We're not talking about opinion but rather facts. Basically all of the big PC developers have shifted or are in the process of shifting their focus to the consoles. Really, just the RTSs and MMOs, which have not really been done well and may not be possible until a new input device is developed for the consoles, are what's left on the PC. Everything else the PC gets in terms of software releases (ie. non-Flash or networking site related) are some of the same, watered-down versions, or various scraps. This generation has really seen a significant drop-off in the PC releases in particular.

Not true. I haven't see anything in terms of "watered-down versions" on the PC. All I've been seeing is that the PC is losing its exclusivity. But, that just means more choices.

I have a 360, and my dad has a Wii and PC. I can play Bioshock on my 360 and I gave him a copy of it on Steam for his birthday for the PC. Now that he's on Steam, he's looking at all of the other good games that are out for PC. The lines between PC and console are blurring fast, but that doesn't mean it's all bad for the PC. That just means that games that wouldn't have been popular in a PC-only gaming world can now be enjoyed by both audiences.

Sounds like an exception that proves the rule.

It is making less and less sense to play games on the PC due to how much it costs to upkeep a gaming PC versus a console.

Hence the inevitable decline of the PC market.

Funny thing is that if it wasn't for the gaming PC market, we could get away with crappy computers running browsers. Video and bloated Windows OSs add a bit, but not nearly like gaming does to a PC.

And the best input system for FPS's/everything. I'll never get used to analog sticks and auto-aim is for newbs. I need mouse look and lots of keyboard buttons.

Oh, christ, how did I forget to mention that you really need to be looking into buying Sins of a Solar Empire.
