iPhone games I recommend

It's been a little while since I have played many new games on the iPhone, leading up to the iPhone 4 launch; but now is a very good time to get back into it.

What to be doing on your phone while waiting around?

Chaos Rings is a surprisingly great RPG available for the iPhone. I highly recommend it.

* It costs 8 dollars for
* Easily the best original RPG currently available on iPhone, even better than War of Eustrath (tactical RPG similar to Fire Emblem, except with mechs and stuff)
* Developed by the Wild Arms team, but also with direction from Square developers; which is why the game has a very strong PSX Final Fantasy feel.
* The analog stick thing is a very good idea, essentially you can tap anywhere on the screen a v-analog will pop up. This is the first time I have seen anything like this in an RPG.

If not that one, Street Fighter 4 has also been available for a while now:

One I have played a lot is We Rule. I usually can't stand games from these B-class mobile developers, but I have found this one to be very addictive (for the time).

I'm looking forward to the time when developers work out optimal control methods for multitouch screens. I can't stand virtual sticks and buttons. The screen is right there! That abstraction of a physical control method really frustrates me when the appeal of a touch screen is that there's no intermediary device between you and whatever you want your software to do.

Anyway! My favourite games on the iPhone are probably on just about every iPhone on the planet: PvZ, Osmos, Zen Bound, Angry Birds, etc.

The Incident's aesthetic is great but I don't find it all that fun to actually play.

I know there are a million tower defense games on the iPhone, but are there any that are actually any good?

I'll be honest, I'm tempted to pick up an iPod Touch just to play games on it. It's basically the only device that plays games that I don't own. haha

Chaos Rings is a good choice. If you want to get all the endings it takes several play throughs and they're all different enough that the game remains interesting. Took me about twenty hours to get all the endings and that wasn't even doing the insane completionist boss bullshit they threw in. Interesting story with fun (most of the time) boss fights.

Also Angry Birds is pretty fun and you can't really go wrong for $1. Oregon Trail is $1, too and that's a time sink that will totally rape your battery before you realize it. Fruit ninja is fun - you cut fruit! It's also $1.

Really nothing has compared to Chaos Rings for me yet.

Epic Citadel isn't a game yet, but it is astonishing.

I picked up an ipod touch last year for this very reason. I just wanted access to their app store because I saw all this news about iphone gaming and I felt that I was being left out. At the time it was an awful decision because it wasn't until more recently, like the past 6 months that these larger games have hit the app store. It is a great platform for 1 minute time wasters, but without a proper controlling mechanism the larger games that we are used to for ds and psp titles don't feel right. This is a platform that is going to have a hard time getting action games that feel good and break past its best titles being rpgs and puzzle games. It is a good device to have if you want an mp3 player that does a WHOLE lot more, including these small bus-trip style games.

Citadel looks really great on my 4. I've only been playing cribbage and solitaire and was actually thinking about soliciting recommendations, so this thread is great. PvZ seems to be the most recommended title I've seen, but I'm trying to find some good FREE games first.

Chaos Rings is also $13, not $8. That one kind of interests me.

I also mess around with Plants vs Zombies, Angry Birds and Peggle on the GF's iPod Touch.

The games shouldn't look this good on a phone.

FULL WOOD!

Unfortunately it's $14, which is too much for an iPhone game, expecially when I have so many unplayed 99ยข games on my phone already.

So, it's a lumberjack simulator for $15? That seems expensive.
