Why you MUST buy Portal 2 for your PS3

1) It allows for cross-platform gaming with the PC and Mac
2) It comes with a free copy of the game for your PC/Mac if you link your PSN account to your Steam account
3) As always, online is free on PS3 and you have to pay for it on the 360
Proof:

Someone please come up with any reason to get this for the 360 if you have both systems, I can't think of one

Buying it on Steam like a good little lemming.

Why would you do that? Why not buy it on the PS3, download it on Steam, then sell the PS3 version for $15 less than what you bought it for. You can get the PC version for $15 that way

I would imagine my PC key would be useless after that which would be the only reason I would ever buy something on Steam - access to it forever.
Edit: I read the article more closely. If you have to link your PSN and Steam accounts... well that sounds pretty fucking difficult without a PS3. And even if you did sell it the PS3 version would be linked to YOUR Steam account and you'd basically be selling a crippled PS3 offline only version.... Ehhh this all requires many more details.

Reasons to go 360:
1) To spite you
2) Better controller for FPS
3) Better online infrastructure for multiplayer
4) I don't have to buy a separate headset or worry that the majority of other players do not have headsets
5) I wouldn't be playing it on my Mac or PC anyway
Having said that, I'm probably not getting it anyway.

I was already getting it for the PS3 so I could do co-op with a friend, but this seals the deal. And I know he has a headset because I bitch about no one having headsets to him all the time. haha

Better controls? I didn't even notice the diff when I switched my cross-platform games to the PS3. In this particular case, the online infrastructure is actually better for the PS3 because of the link to Steam. When I'm on the 360 I don't even use my headset unless I'm with friends and even then I use my pad most of the time. And I don't play on the PC either but for others it's a big plus.

Yeah at 10gb the time it takes to install will eat into how long you get to play when you get home. Almost surprised it's so big. It's a much more fulfilling game than the original but the original only wanted me to download 1.4gb.

This will be purchased when I want a break from Mass Effect 2, which I don't see happening soon.

The extra 8.6GB is made up of songs sung by Glados.

But but but, there's a rumor the PC version is a port of the console version! The Glorious PC Gaming Master Race is up in arms about it!

Wow I've never been less enthused about being a PC Gamer than when it's called a master race :P
Also, yeah, it's hard NOT to drop ~50 hours into ME2. According to Steam it's 157 for me lol
And as far as console wars go I couldn't care less but asking Zeus to stop is along the same lines as asking him to stop saying Shitsa and Microshaft

I will tell you right now to get Bionic Commando Re-Armed 2 for the 360 instead of PS3 'cause of Capcom's idiocy or Bayonetta for 360 'cause it's a superior game. It has nothing to do with platform advocacy. It's just a better version, period.

Yeah I'm in as shrinweck.. I'm assuming you're the one on my list named FlipFantastic heh
I have work Friday all night but I should be around Saturday and Sunday night.
Edit: I have to say upon further thought I really like how solving the puzzles has more to do with exploring and being inventive and not like the original where getting the timing down perfectly is necessary not to die in an annoying way. I guess what I'm saying is the vaporizing spheres do not make a return appearance.

Have you guys tried playing it with someone who's usin' a PS3 copy? Does it work well?

Sunday could be good, is this headset compatible? Probably hard to figure things out otherwise. I'll want all day Sat to mess around with single player.

I dunno at all about headsets. There's a huge emphasis with coop and in-game gestures. I almost thought there wasn't voice support with said emphasis. I dunno. If it is necessary I can certainly buy another it'll just take more time. To be completely honest with gestures and the fact that I somehow managed to get through single player alone I figured we'd manage. I mean, I bought the original at the same time and I still haven't made my way through it. Seriously. Fuck those vaporizing spheres.
Is coop even available cross-platform? I would assume not. That's a pretty ridiculous leap from what I'm used to.

Yeah, you can play co-op between a PS3 and a PC because of the Steam integration on the PS3 for this game. It's a pretty cool idea. I'm really interested to see how well it works.

That's what they've been pushing all along with the PS3 version, that you can connect your PS3 copy to a Steamworks account and play with both PS3 and PC friends. AND you can actually download a copy of the game on your PC to play it as well, so you get both the PS3 and PC versions if you buy the PS3 one. Apparently it works for all modes, not just competitive multi. It's freakin' awesome if it works seamlessly. You know how much I woulda been bugging you guys to play Left 4 Dead 2 if that feature was in that game?
That's how this whole thread started, with me saying "this feature makes the PS3 the ultimate version of the game, why would you bother buying any other version" then getting slammed for promoting platform advocacy from everyone who didn't bother reading the entire post.

Question for those with the PS3 version. I know that the PS3 saves are stored in the Steam-cloud. Is your PS3 save compatible with the PC version and vice versa? So, could I play for a bit on the PS3 and then jump to the PC and load that same game?

Between Friday and today, i steamrolled through the single player, too. Good stuff, without a FAQ on anything.
Portal makes my stupid ass feel smart.
The few gripes:
The game is actually too long. You get over it after a while, there are only so many puzzles they can throw at you before you get used to the formula and solve things pretty fast. When you reach that point, you just want to win.
The middle section during your first 'escape' is slightly annoying because it turns into a 'where is the next portal'able wall' like a Where's Waldo game.
I understand the game is tediously longer so it can justify the $50 price tag, but maybe it should have been tighter and only $20... oh wait, they want to make a ton of money.

Too long? Even if coop doubles the time I end up putting into it it hardly justifies the $45 Steam wanted for it. Lots of fun but I shoulda followed my gut and waited for the first huge sale on it.

Well thats the point i was trying to make, the game is a little too long because it does the same thing over and over, which means it really should have been a $20 game. Its not a long game, by any stretch of the imagination, but it is too long due to the nature of the game... if that makes sense. The first one for the $5 or whatever i paid for it was perfect.

Beat Single Player in about 6-7 hours, beat Co-op in 4 hours. Fun game, but like Shrinweck I agree it's the kind of game I could have waited for a sale on. 0 replay value after you beat both versions of it.

Yeah, that's about what it took for me to beat the single-player as well. What I liked about it is the game was so in danger of falling into the "too obscure it's annoying not fun or hard" trap but never really did. Like the "ending sequence" of the original that lasted waaaay too long (was almost as long as the rest of the game for cryin' out loud), Chapters 6 and 7 just lasted too long and got annoying. I couldn't freakin' wait 'til I was done Chapter 7 and almost wished it didn't exist. But other than that, the puzzles were good, lots of neat and new ideas, and just as you were about to say "enough already, I've seen this over and over again", they change it up for you and make it feel fresh. It's almost felt like 3 different sequels mashed together, it was neat.
I wanted to play co-op tonight.....fucking Sony. I'm dyin' to see what they're gonna do to make it up to all the Portal 2 and Socom 4 fans who are steamin' their games are only half working during release week. I know a lot of other people are saying "it's free, they're doin' nothin" but Microshaft gave us Carcassone and Undertow for even Silver members when Live went down. So there's a precedent and if there's anything Sony doesn't want, it's to get upstaged by their rival. Tuesday night will mark the full week point of it being down and Live never went down that long. So I'm willing to bet there will be something. I just wonder how long it's gonna last before it's back up again.
Eric, if you've beaten it completely, sell it. You can get about $30 or $35 for it right now and you can just pick it up later again for $10 (in a year or so). That'll almost be like getting it on sale.

Extra bonus for you Zeus -- not only will PSN NOT be back up anytime soon but your reward is knowing that somewhere out there your name, address, credit card, etc is now being sold around on the black market. Hope you don't reuse that PSN password anywhere...

I'm amazed Microshaft allowed them to release it for free after forcing a cost on the L4D updates. They musta been forced to do something after Valve basically came out and said "we wanna give it to you for free, we just aren't allowed"
