Last Guardian = Game of 2011?

Man, this game is sounding better and better the more I read about it. I fully admit a lot of excitement is coming from Team Ico's proven track record, but this game is sounding so neat. If it turns out to play nearly as well as Shadow of the Colossus, I'll be in heaven

Anyone else here excited about this game? No set release date, but it's sounding more and more like an October-type release with the collection (Ico + Shadow) coming in May or so

rofl, nobody knows anything about this fucking game and people are so hype about it for bizarre reasons.

"A boy and his dog! Omg the epicness!"

I'm not going to rule out unlikely concept turning out to a good game but it seems like this guy is raving on it because this griffon or something looked like his dead dog because the eyes are similar. That's about as convincing as saying getting this game because the girls look cute. Actually I'd be more likely to be convinced of the latter than the former.

I'm hoping to play SotC and Ico when they re-release next month. I watched a friend play through parts of SotC and it was awesome. It sounds like this game will be pretty cool if they can cause an emotional connection between you and the 2 charatecters. From what I've seen of their past games, they can.

I'm definitely interested in hearing more about this one.

People are raving about this game 'cause of Ico and Shadow. They saw how great those two "weird" games turned out and now we've got another "weird" one with really neat ideas. All it has to do is play as good as its predecessors - and there's no reason to believe it won't - and it should be awesome.

That's like saying this last game that featured a girl with pink hair was good so a similar game that features a girl with pink girl has to be good too.

There's no logical connection between 'good game' and 'weird concept'. The game might or might not be good. It'd help if the guy writing the review wasn't raving about his dead dog at the beginning. I realize there are things you have to play to experience it but talking about your dead dog isn't going to help here.

It's kind of like how Balthier says he prefers treasure whose value can be measured. If the emotional value of the game cannot be measured, maybe it isn't really there either.

Perhaps I stuttered or wasn't clear enough, so let me say it in much less words:

"I want this game because of how good their past games were, period"

Clear things up a bit?

PS3 only? I think a qualifier needs to be put into the thread title.

Your link pretty much has nothing to do with the point you're trying to make.

It'll be a good game I'd wager, based on previous Team Ico games. The whole puppy-dog thing isn't wowing me, but if good graphics allow them to capture the sappy, heart tugging Homeward Bound-esque aspects...great.

It's PS3, so I will likely never try it. Seems like Sony has been getting solid exclusives the last little while, while MS has brought almost nothing to the table. I wouldn't be surprised to hear new system announcements this year.

It's Team Ico. Sorry, thought it was known they were owned by Sony

The neat part of the interaction is how you and the dog will work together based on his personality, your history together, etc. Seems almost like you basically have to train your doggy-thing. I'm not for the sappiness part either, I wanna see how it translates into gameplay. The graphics certainly won't hurt, either. IF they can do that much with the PS2 imagine what this (and Shadow in HD) will be like...

That's the rumour going around right now, Microshaft is working on the 720 or whatever you wanna call it and may announce it soon. I don't know, this is year #6 and they're still #1 in North America in sales by a decent margin. Hell, we've only seen one $50 price drop on the Wii in 4+ years, that's unheard of. At least 'til they lose that lead we won't hear a sniff out of them regarding a new system. Both they and Sony seem to be sticking to their 10-year lifecycle plans. Unless there's a severe shift in sales mix, in 2013 we'll probably hear about the system coming out in 2014. Bumping both figures back one year if they get beat hard this year.

And don't discount the fact that consumers don't want a new system anytime soon. No one wants to drop $500-600 on a system again when everything looks perfectly fine now. What new technology do they have to entice people to buy? SNES to PSX/N64 was 3D graphics, to PS2 was the DVD player, to PS3/360 was HD and 3D display, which is still in its infancy from a consumer standpoint. Other than an HD Wii2, I can't imagine another console coming out for at least another 3-4 years, there's really no reason for it. The consumer doesn't want it and the manufacturer has no incentive to push it
