If ti plays the games I've bought already on PSN from the PSP then i would be too. I could drop my UMDs and not care too much, but i would def need this to be backward compatible for me to buy. A nice anti-tablet device this could be too if the browsing is fast and clean.

Yeah that was confirmed, all of the current PSP games you bought on the store on your PS account carry over, which is awesome, since I haven't bought a UMD since the first Dissidia. http://www.crunchgear.com/2011/06/02/so ... psp-games/

I wonder what kinda damage Sony is gonna be taking on each system sold, it just seems too good to be true for $250 per system, but I guess they realized that pricing on the system itself and just installing a user base was worth whatever kinda money they're gonna lose on each system sold.

Another tidbit specifically for Zeus since I know he likes to have physical media(weirdo!)

Software for the PlayStation Vita will be distributed on NVG Cards, a new proprietary flash card format, rather than on Universal Media Discs (UMDs) used by the original PlayStation Portable.NVG game cards will be available in 2 GB and 4 GB sizes. 5 — 10% of the writeable space will be reserved for save data, patches, etc. Higher-capacity game cards are planned to be made available for future releases.

What a good move. At $250 and with the hardware they are pushing, they are really making the 3DS look sub-par. I was planning to get a 3DS eventually, but the Vita is my first choice now.

Having said that, the name is kind of dumb.

Best price. I am now pleased and excited for this.

That is very cheap, same price as the 3DS. Good move.

And Sony learned their lesson from the PSPGo. 3/4 of people still want physical media, you can't ignore that fact

75%? Are you sure? I mean I totally get it for handheld devices and certainly almost no one has an Aunt that knows how to gift something to someone online but that seems off.

Is it safe to assume that the 3DS will drop by $25 or $50 bucks come this holiday season to be the lower priced device? A price drop in under a year would be unprecedented, too.

I hope Nintendo drops the price. I don't think the 3DS was selling nearly as well as Nintendo wanted so I could see it happening. I'd get one if it were $200.

That might have something to do with the fact there's no games, lol.

I linked a survey last year that stated something like 77% of people prefer and put more value on physical media. I used it to support my stance that digital media does not have as much value as physical media and should, therefore, be cheaper. That's why Valve gets it right with Steam and why it's popular, the discounts.

Think about it: are you going to pay $40 for a digital copy of God of War Portable 3? That's what they're going to try to sell it to you for. When Peace Walker went on sale digitally for the same price as physical, Konami said "yeah, that shit didn't work". Hell, even Sony themselves said "the PSPGo got FUCKED, we have to include physical media for at least one more generation".

Don't think for a second that Sony would have eliminated the physical media for the Vita if they could have. But the types of games they sell they need physical media. The iPhone game sell for an average of $3-4, Sony's trying to offer larger games with more in them and sell those for $30-40. Ain't no market for that......yet

Gotta check, but pretty sure the PS3 dropped within the first year (in 2007) to match the 360 drop

I own a 3DS and I have yet to play a single 3DS game, other than the AR and Mii games built into the system itself. Waiting to play through Ocarina again.

Ocarina of Time only days away now. I got Steel Diver and Super Street Fighter 4 to tide me off until some real games start to come in. Street Fighter 4 surprised me, I have ended up playing it more than any other fighter since Soul Calibur way back on Dreamcast.

Although the games I really want are MGS3D, Resident Evil Revelations, Super Mario 3D, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Zelda, Kid Icarus, Phoenix Wright vs Professor Layton, and Starfox 3D. These are all packed in a small timeframe, I wish the companies would have been better at getting those releases more spread out.

PSV (I'll use PSV because Vita sounds too much like Pita) is a way better name than NGP, I just couldn't get over the fact that the NGP already existed as SNK's handheld videogame console. $250 is a great and slightly surprising price, I predicted it would be $299; which is also a good price.

I'm in the exact same boat. I've tried Pilotwings from a bud but Ocarina will be the first one I buy and play through.

Kinda sad they fucked up the launch. The hardware is excellent and Face Raiders is a lot more fun than it should be. But man, we've had NOTHING. It's been worse than the N64, that at least had Mario at launch with Star Wars, Tetrisphere, and Blast Corps in the first 2 months. Japan gets Professor Layton at launch and we don't even have a release date for it here. That was the one launch game I wanted and I have no idea when it's coming. I think they're holding it back to release #4 (Magic Flute) on regular DS sometime this summer then give us that during Xmas. But they already have Star Fox (can't wait to play that in 3D), Mario Kart, Mario, and Kid Icarus coming during Xmas. Layton may get pushed to next year
