Not enough fanfare in this thread. :)

In edition the other 8 characters were leaked today, lol Capcom. :>

Doctor Strange, Frank West, Iron Fist, Nemesis, Nova, Phoenix Wright, Rocket Raccoon and Vergil have been accidentally revealed on the Capcom website.

There aren't many fighting games that don't expand the roaster and rebalance their games with a new version of the same game, at least they're not charging full price. Think of it like an expansion set.

Tekken 6 had Bloodline Rebellion, Blazblue had Continuum Shift & Continuum Shift II, Street Fighter IV has Super, and Arcade Edition to name a few, it's kind of expected of any serious tournament worthy fighting game that you're going to get a 2nd or even 3rd version down the line.

I never liked Megaman in any of the VS series. He somehow turns a series that never made sense to begin with even less sensible.

Even five years ago, I think this may have been reasonable. But now that DLC is the norm, I don't think releasing a new packaged product at 66% of full price with some new characters and tweaks is reasonable.

Exactly. I'm getting fucking tired of being nickled and dimed.

MVC3 wasn't that good anyway.

They can do what Civilization 5 does and release a new character for $5 as DLC. I'd say adding a new character probably takes more effort than adding a new Civilization which takes about 5 minutes if you don't care about how your leader actually looks or sounds like.

Given how ridiculous some DLCs can cost I don't think that inherently makes something fair or not.

lol then don't buy it. :P

There's enough significant differences between Marvel vs Capcom 3 and this version to justify the purchase. Same as there was enough differences between Vanilla SFIV and SSFIV to justify that one.

Arcade Edition SFIV was just DLC, because all they did was add 4 characters and balance changes, THAT worked as DLC.

For Super SFIV they added new modes, extensive gameplay changes, new online features, replays, tournament modes, etc, you can expect that kind of an upgrade from Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Should it have been DLC? Maybe, if all they did was add characters and balance changes, I'd agree with that, if they're adding more then that(and they are) I totally understand making a new package.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 was its own game, it did well so Capcom is making another version, if it didn't do well they wouldn't have even bothered, and you'd have nothing to complain about because you'd be playing MvsC3 for the next 10 years with no updates.

I don't get how you can get so salty for something not being given to you for free or DLC, this isn't an MMO, you're not entitled to free updates or ANY updates for that matter after the initial purchase, you bought it for the initial package alone.

Didn't Soul Calibur put Darth Vader/Yoda as DLC (for the system that didn't have the other character) for $5? It wouldn't be any cheaper to get it as DLC given there are 12 characters consider what gets charged for DLC these days.

You don't get how I can be so salty? Really? They announce this less than 6 months after the release of the game. They are putting out unfinished products and cashing in on their customers. This is becoming industry norm and it is saddening. Everyone said before MvC3 came out that the roster was small compared to MvC2.

Marvel 2 had 56 characters, most fighting games don't have 56 characters, when you consider that they basically just copied/pasted sprites from their other fighting games, and threw them together in Marvel vs Capcom 2, and he fact that only maybe 6 characters are actually viable compared to Marvel 3's roaster, that argument doesn't hold weight. I feel like with Marvel 3 they put alot of work into making sure you could play whatever character you wanted. To call it an "unfinished product" because they decide to expand the roaster later, only after they found success with the original product is ridiculous imo.

Meh, we disagree on the amount of content being offered for the price, and the timing in which it's coming out. Let's leave it at that.

Definitely a good article and I agree with a lot of the idea behind them updating the arcade releases. I really think my issue goes to having the vanilla version in my library and it becomes useless upon the new release. I think in this day and age with DLC Capcom should try to work in big patches and updates. Sure maybe they totally revamp the engine and that is not possible. At least with SF4 and SSF4 there was a lot more time in between releases and it made sense to me, and I was happy to see AE come out as DLC.

A reasonable trade in deal would be awesome too....but no real benefit in that for them.

Yep, they announced that at Evo this weekend.

They also announced that they might make Poison's gender up for a vote...that I wasn't too crazy about.
