Pretty cool. Although, they are mixing up the combine soldiers with... well, no soldiers at all in Portal! Black Mesa and Aperture are rivals.

I got the impression they were part of the hologram of the room/experiment and since there's nothing solid about where Portal happens in the Half-Life timeline, then taking liberties isn't too far out of the question. It's perfectly feasible that Chell would have experience running away from the Combine. The different companies have nothing to do with the timeline of an alien invasion force.
