At least some developers get it

After the Saints Row guys came out and said "yeah, ban used games, that would be fantastic!" the Witcher guys come out and say "ummm, maybe we should just make good games and people will buy them?"

Uhhh their logic doesn't really follow, the quality of your game doesn't really dictate whether people, specifically people who are not early adopters(poeple who buy the game @ release) will buy new or used.

Car companies, electronics, and a multitude of other goods don't get money when you buy their products used why the fuck do video game companies feel so fucking entitled?

Well those businesses don't have something comparable to piracy that already dicks them out of tens/hundreds of thousands/millions of units. Because used cars and electronics still have innards that need to be serviced/replaced. Because the quality of the product doesn't degrade through use over time (if you're taking care of it) and a single copy of a game could potentially pass through an infinite amount of people's hands and still play as intended. Also because game developers are in a unique position to stop us whereas it is literally impossible for basically every other kind of business to even try and businesses acting in their own best interest is unavoidable.

Unlike physical stuff, a 'used' copy of a game generally suffers no degradation in quality. Unless you somehow trash the physical medium it's likely to play just fine, and if you can somehow sell a game you order online from Steam 'used' it obviously is exactly the same as when you get it new.
I'm sure subscription based game don't care if you got your copy of WoW 'used' from another guy as long as you don't get into any account disputes, since all they care is someone is paying the $15/month.
That said I'm not sure if there's a point to try to stop something like this, though I prefer they try to stop this then just making everything tied to microtransactions/subscription based.

Dictate? No. But if you provide people with enough value, they will buy your game new a lot more often. Won't work with every game but keep making quality and people keep buying. It was no coincidence that NSMB and Mario Kart DS sold for 5 years straight (in the top 20) or that Skyrim still's sellin' pretty solid or Monster Hunter is unstoppable in Japan.
What the developers ain't lookin' at is how many new games WON'T be sold without the ability of people to trade/sell/transfer their used games. There's only so much money going around for most people, they'll just buy less games if they can't use their old ones to subsidize their gaming habits in some way. That's the cold, hard truth and it ain't an insignificant amount, either. It's not coincidence that Best Buy and Target have gotten into the used game business. Not only profit but volume is what drove them into it

Good to see there's even more sanity left in the development world

Well PC users have been constantly dicked over by DRM for a very long time. Welcome to our world? Not the same thing but I imagine it'll involve something along the same lines of people talking big about not buying things and then giving in a short time later.

Isn't Ubi still reeling from their DRM bullshit?
Heck, even if they allowed a transfer of 5 times it's a decent compromise. Fuckers wanna take it way COMPLETELY, that's what's wrong

Yeah their PC sales are down a great deal without a corresponding rise in console sales, but I'm not going to blame that on DRM as much as them being lazy at PC development. Releases that come later than their console counterparts mixed with poor support of the PC's capabilities and bugs. Also Ubisoft basically only releases sequels nowadays (their attempts at originals are pretty poor with the exception of Anno 2070) and each poor PC release is another failure at capturing players that could have been loyal to the franchise (Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed, whatever else they release every other year or so).

How the fuck did Eric end up posting the exact same thing as Shrinweck?

Gah, that was a pretty crazy glitch. The site was just freezing when I tried to post and a refresh afterwards showed a post hadn't been made. I'm guessing that's just Eric's idea of a joke? :P

Flip & I always seem to be the pranksters on this board.
If only G-man was still around, we could frantically try and delete posts again and crash the board.
