MMORPG hacking for dummies

This is a topic that bothers me a lot. While there are always the guys who think anyone who beat them in a MMORPG is a hacker, what's even more astounding is that there are guys who genuinely believe nobody is hacking, even though you randomly see some large number of players banned from many games in general for attempting to cheat.
What's even dumber is the guys who google for hacks, because all you're going to find is malware to download since it's a lot more profitable to try to hack the guys looking for a hack than hoping those guys might actually give you anything even if you had some working hack for others to download. As far as I can tell you're still supposed to get your hacks from *reputable* underground sites just like it's always been, which is no different from piracy.
People also seem to assume anyone using hacks is going to be dumb and make it obvious. Just because you ran maphack in Starcraft doesn't mean you can't magically send a unit ahead of time to pretend you scouted something ahead of time. In fact, I'd say that the better you are the more incentive you've to use hacks if you don't care about morals because the better you are, the harder it is for anyone to catch you because you'll know all the basics to make everything look legitmate. Sure you could do a 300% run speed hack in a MMORPG but it'd be obviously to anyone who isn't blind. You're much better off sticking around with say 30-50% speed which is not even very easy to see if you're some kind of movement debuff on you since those tend to cancel out. In fact, why would you even want to have 300% speed given all that's going to do is make you massively overrun whereever you're going to go?
