Am I the only one playin' RE6?

I will keep this spoiler-free....
Been playin' with a bud online a couple of times a week. We got through Leon's campaign so the other two finally opened up. Took us about 8 1/2 hours which is what, about 2/3rds as long as RE5? And we ain't even close to halfway through yet. This game is FREAKIN' HUGE for an action/survival horror game. If you consider how long Mass Effect 1 is (25-30 hours on average) you begin to see just how much content there is here.
As for the game itself, I've never, ever been a fan of the controls of the series, even with #4. So I wasn't rippin' Capcom a new one over the controls in RE5 and thought it was a ton of fun to play co-op (Eric, I know; you don't need to bring it up...again). This one is certainly different even from that. First off, you have controls which will feel VERY touchy at the beginning. Even after finishing the first campaign I still have a lot of over-correction. I haven't seen a sensitivity bar yet to tone it down but haven't looked too hard as it ain't really a game-breaker. I don't mind the new menu system (up-down to switch "categories" - such as guns, first-aid, and grenades/remotes - and left and right to choose the specific weapon. No more of the restricted inventory system for weapons, turning it much more into action-style gameplay. I think I ended up with 7 or 8 guns by the end of the campaign. I know people will bitch but I like it more not having to store shit for no reason and the restriction is still there for ammo/herbs so there is SOME inventory management. It's just not a pervasive part of the game which, to me, is an improvement.
Even with all these weapons, you find yourself short on ammo quite a bit due to a) the restricted inventory slots for them, b) the bullet-sponges the zombies seem to be, and c) the sheer volume of enemies you face. Speakin' of the zombies, there's a SHITTON of different ones. There's armored ones, ones with guns, ones with melee weapons, a myriad of "special" ones....and tons of variety in each category (you can see all you've faced in the very-extensive records menu). That's before you even start talking about the non-zombie enemies. Sure ain't no shortage of types or numbers of zombies, that's for sure. Keeps it a bit fresh (you can do different melees on different types) considering how many you end up facing. I think both my bud and I got the "kill 500 zombies" trophy by the end of just Leon's campaign. And we avoided a lot for various reasons.
Zombies also seem to take A LOT of bullets unless you get the right headshot. Instead of a shotgun blast taking out 2 or 3 guys, you're happy if it takes out one. Handgun bullets go as fast as they come and even semi-auto sniper ammo doesn't necessarily rip through the zombies. That's why you end up using the melee attacks a lot more. The idea is when you stagger the zombie, you can one-shot melee kill them with a bunch of different special attacks like pile-driving their head into the ground, using their melee weapon against them, or smashing their head against a wall. Of course, you do have stamina for these attacks so you can continuously use them which is IRRITATING when you're runnin' low on bullets since you run out of stamina far faster than you think. Thankfully, Leon still has his trusty knife which is helpful to save bullets here and there when both of you are engaged on one zombie
What is pretty irritating is the extensive use of quick-time events. I'm OK with them on occasion and when they're not too ridiculous, but in RE6, it's clearly over-done. You often have your partner protecting you while having to hit a button in 5 consecutive timed presses which are really close together 3 separate times in a row. Whenever a zombie grabs you, guess what? QTE time. Then there's the get-it-or-you-die ones that are super-irritating when the timing is so damned precise (in particular, the one in the 4th chapter). Just plain over-used. This ain't God of War, I'm playing the game not Simon Says. The fact they're much more complex and very frequent only accents the irritation. You do get the occasional latency issue but they're very infrequent and minor. Not worth mentioning, really.
I would put it in the 8/10 territory at this point. It has its flaws and will NOT cater to Eric and his old-school only RE buds. Not nearly as bad as some of the reviews are making it out to be. I'm still very much enjoying the co-op portion. I can't speak for the AI since I only play co-op. Certainly will go through and try to finish this massive game.
