playing WoW trial

I got a free month of WoW from Diablo 3 for some reason so decided to play the game again. It's amazing how bad PvP in this game is and yet people play it anyway, just because you still need the honor points. Let's forget all the imbalance issues and whatnot. The biggest problem of WoW is that they more or less force you to stay for nearly the duration of the match (20 minutes) in games where you've basically no chance of winning but you got to stick around for the award for losing. This is especially true in Warsong Gulch where you'll usually need close to the whole 20 minutes even on games where there's no way of winning/losing depending on which side of the beatdown you're on. Compared to this, SWTOR games end in 10 minutes or less when you grossly overpower the other side. Huttball can be won in under 5 minutes easily. The problem is that close games is very rare in MMORPG in general. Usually your side is either way stronger or way weaker, especially in a game like WoW where rampant twinking is available. This in itself is fine but the game should not encourage matches to drag on even when it's clear one side has absolutely no chance of winning. It probably doesn't help that WoW has some cryptic scoring system like the bases giving exponential points so that it might take a while to figure out your side has already lost.

You should try MOBA games then if you want to complain about pointless, drawn out PvP. League of Legends and DoTA 2 can be some of the most painful gaming sessions known to man. You're damn lucky if your team is smart enough to realize you have no chance and you surrender at 20 minutes (the soonest they allow you to do it)

Yet I keep playing them -_-

This is the one area I really like SWTOR because it's usually very obvious when your team has lost the game so you can be put out of your misery and just surrender (or rather, everyone just stops playing on your team to ensure you'll lose in the shortest possible time) and move on to your next beatdown. Yesterday I had a game of Warsong Gulch where we capped 8 minutes into the game and the guy who capped it said "GG" and we went on to win it 1-0 after the entire duration of the match is up (20 minutes), and I think the other side were never anywhere close to getting their flag back but we still had to slog through the whole 20 minutes. I'm sure if there was an option to surrender the losing side would've been glad to end the match in 1/2 the time given most of the reward is tied to completing the match.

Most MMORPG PvP matches are basically decided in the first 30 seconds except in most of them the game doesn't give you enough information to know that your side has already lost the game and should give up and end up wasting everyone's time. It's even worse when the winning side doesn't know they've already won, because at least the losing side have an incentive to turn it around. There's nothing like turning a 7 minutesguaranteed win into a 20 minutes fight slugfest that you still won, but both side ends up getting 1/3 the reward per time spent, because the winning side was trying to win in 5 minutes instead of 7 minutes.
