Final Fantasy 4 re boot

I was travelling for work across the entire damn country this week so i had a lot of time to pick back up the FF4 download i have on my PSP. First off, i was surprised that my PSP was even working. I use it for travel every time, but i havent had to go anywhere for work or personal in maybe 6 or 7 months. When you have an electronic device laying around that long, you just never know whats going to happen when you try to start it up. It didnt boot until i charged it up, but afterwards everything was just smooth and it held the charge just fine. Second, i'm still very impressed with the PSP and its capabilities. I really see no need to get a Vita yet. I have a few TV shows, a movie, some music, and lot of games on my PSP. What else is needed to entertain yourself for a 4 or 5 hour flight? Better movies and better games? I'm not sold on that since the games i have do the job just fine and i think you can still download purchased movies for the PSP.

Anyways, i'm not sure if this is the same version as the DS FF4, but the one i have has the full game all cleaned up graphically, a Prologue, and then the After Years. I decided i wanted to beat the full game again before trying the new parts and i got really far with it. I'm now with my final party members which is the beginning of the end when you dont have characters like Edward, Tellah, Yang, and Cid coming in and out.

What surprised me with this version is the difficulty. Maybe i'm just not used to jRPG's anymore, but regular monsters frequently give you a tough time. I'm healing after every battle and sometimes get very close to dying (knock on wood, i havent died). In some points, your party members only have 1k HP and a 'back attack' of 4 monsters who hit for 200 apiece can tear you apart. I also think the healing is very weak. I'm glad Rosa have a lot of MP, but her best heal spell right now, when used on everyone, only does like +150 to each member. It seems like there are a ton of back attacks or 'your party was surprised'. Its really gets fucking annoying after a while, though.

Maybe i'm leveling slow for the content or maybe these games just were kind of hard. Regardless, it was a great distraction and i'm looking forward to playing the 2 extra game modes that are included. I suppose i'll have to actually play at home in the future and not just put away the PSP until the next work trip.

It's not the same as the DS one (which is all 3D and voiced in cutscenes).

I haven't played this one so I can't speak to its difficulty. I never had much a problem with FF2/4 on any system as long as I fought everything and never ran.

I can't ever see a reason for purchasing a Vita. Or 3DS for that matter... but especially a Vita. The DS and PSP will most certainly be my last dedicated handheld consoles. Granted, I WOULD like to play Persona 4 Golden, but not so much I'd buy a system that is CLEARLY NOT GOING TO SUCCEED to do so.

I love FF4. So much. And I hate you for bringing it up because now I want to buy that version off PSN because it's been at least a year since I played through it (DS remake).

Can you swap out your final party in this one like you can in the GBA version? By that, I mean can you put Palom/Porom/Cid/Edward/Yang in your party once you have to go to the moon?

EDIT: Completely unrelated, not making a new topic...

FF4 for the PSP is a conglomeration of the "hard" Jap version of FF4 (same one you got on the PSX collection, but cleaned up), the cellphone episodic sequels (9-3 hour parts; you can buy it on Wii as well), and the all new Interlude thing. The DS version was a 3D remake, they're not the same thing.

As of right now, the Vita is just a pretty piece of hardware. Like always, games determine what I buy. 3DS has tons of great stuff and much more coming, Vita only has about 4 or 5 games I'd even care about. At $250, I'll certainly wait. I only got my 3DS earlier because I got it for $130. Even now at $200 for the XL it's a little expensive. But it's got a lot of good games, can't deny that.

Now that I'm older with three toddlers I generally game a lot less so it'll certainly take me longer to buy a system. The last two I got day 1 were the Wii and 3DS and that was because I got them on large discounts. I haven't even considered a Wii U yet and it might take me even longer to get the NextBox or PS4, especially if the used game thing is true

Blotus, before you download, check Amazon. You may be able to buy FF4 for PSP for cheaper than downloading it

Ok that makes sense. I started thinking 'i was better at games in my memories than i really am...' but no, this FF4 version really has made me pray for those tent/cottage spots and the 40 something limit to the different items that you can carry has thrown me for a loop. I dont run from battles either and i thought i'd gotten lost enough times to not have the content out level my party.

I thought the PSP one was the best of the remakes, I fuckin love FFIV, I can never get tired of that game, except for the Dark Elf cave, fuck that Elf and his lack of metal! FFFF

I liked how FFIV looked on the PSP more then the 3D on the DS, it was really gorgeous with just sexier sprites and art.

Not all PSPs are created equal.

My favourite version of FF4 was the GBA one. While the DS one had the new 3D graphics, FMVs, voice acting, and re-written script - the GBA one kept the traditional sprites, but doubled the size of the game with the addition of a ton of new content.
