I don't like this guy at all and I think that comment should include himself but he's probably right here. I know you usually see an argument about soandso game sucks and someone will say, 'can you do better?' To that I'd say 'but it's unlikely to be worse', and very unlikely depending on which game you're talking about in particular. I'm sure all of us can lead a MMORPG to total flop in 5 months as well as any of the spectucular failures that have occurred in the last 5 years or so just fine if we were given the position of the head designer.

That said based on the article I'm guessing the average game designer don't get pay very much so it's probably expected. It's kind of like the story in the average game sucks too because the writer probably isn't being paid much. Not saying paying them a lot of money would solve the problem but you sure can't expect quality story from a guy who probably shouldn't even be writing fanfiction.

The guy hasn't really done anything relevant in over ten years (MAYBE, CoH). Not sure he should be talking. He sounds cynical and isolated in his opinions about game development. Not positive things to bring to the table.

Uhh...Lord British is a great designer, I don't think I've ever read anything bad about him. TR failed because of NCSoft, not him.

Mostly was trying to say he's been out of the loop for a long time. A game that cannot be played any more is no longer relevant in a great deal of ways that matter to the people who have never played it, good memories or not. You can be the best designer in the world but it doesn't matter if your games can't be played. Kickstarter is probably the best case scenario this guy could hope for. I expect decent things, but approaching this with caution is probably wise.
