  • Hit point inflation?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I was in a Chinese message board to see what the gaming Gods have to say about FFX, and some of the numbers thrown around in the conversation is just mind-boggling. Here's some samples:

Topic: Need help on boss XYZ

Q: "Boss XYZ is beating me up. He heals 28000 HP every round. Am I doing something wrong?"

A: "You're too low for that guy. He only has 280000 HP and if you hit him for 99999 each round the healing is insignificant."

Topic: Thoughts on optional battles

"The optional boss battles in FFX are too easy. Aaron kills most of them in one hit with the Masamune. You only have to do about 3.5 million damage to take out the 2nd to last guy, and the last guy only has 10 million HP."

Topic: Thoughts on Yuna

"Why is Yuna a summoner when she melees for 99999 damage with a staff? She doesn't need summon monsters to protect her."

Of course, it's pretty obvious you've people who have everyone walked around the sphere board and then some. Still, I'm wondering what's the point of this senseless HP inflation. Instead of doing 9999 you do 99999 damage now, but the optional bosses have 10 million HP instead of 1 million HP, so is anything changed? Obviously you won't exceed 9999 in the regular game very easily, but the bosses have been designed to take a while to kill even if you're hitting 9999.

I heard Valkyrie Profile is worse. Isn't that the game you can do 6 digit damage and enemies have a billion HP?</div>

<div style='font: 11pt ; text-align: left; '>Hehe, Yeah in Valk Profile the last boss has about 1billion HP, but when you're taking off 999,999 a shot with your godly weapons it falls quickly. ;P</div>

<div style='font: 9pt Arial; text-align: left; '>According to Gamefaqs.com, the final boss had about 300,000 - 400,000 HP. It doesn't really matter, since he paled in comparison to Bloodbane.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt Arial; text-align: left; '>I think you're right about how it mirrors inflation. The proportions of damage and such are not much changed from any older titles, yet the numbers are exponentially higher. Kinda like some European countries where common purchases are in the thousands of price units (lira?)</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>They kept the 9999 system, but because the pace is much faster, things ought to have more HP. The battle is fairly well paced unless you're horrendously underleveled for where you should be.

Would've been nice if they eliminated the 12 hits combo stuff from people like Claude and Ashton, and get rid of the 9999 damage and HP barrier. I mean, you can't hit for 9999 on Iselia without having some kind of tech going off anyway, if memory serves correct.</div>
