Are the developers for Space Channel 5 demented or what?

<div style='font: 11pt "EngraversGothic BT", "Copperplate Gothic Light"; text-align: left; '>Seriously, it looks like a neat game, if you can get past the ridiculousness of it. Everybody dancing like it was a musical or something. Anyway, I let Shellie play it first, and she is miserable at it. I must make fun of her lack of rhythm and immediately yank the controller from her. So, I play level one, and do just fine. I miss a few, but otherwise it's fun.
Then, I get to level 2, and it's like the controller is broken or something. I hit the buttons ON TIME, and they don't work. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It's like they suddenly toned down the response time, so that you have to accurate within 1/200th of a second, instead of 1/8th or so. This makes the game not fun, and you don't know how to fix it. I can understand if you have complex patterns that make you panic and say "uhhhh...fuck", but when you try to get the simple patterns on time, and all she says is "ugh" every time you push a button, it's not enjoyable.
Anybody else have this problem when they play?</div>
