I broke down and got a GBA. I can't fathom why a portable system that's been around for 15 years has yet to master the fine art of putting a fucking light on the system!

<div style='font: 11pt "EngraversGothic BT", "Copperplate Gothic Light"; text-align: left; '>I bought one of those kits from Intec for $35. Piece of shit. Everything else looks neat except the backlight, which is the whole reason I bought the kit. It's a tiny blue light that shines on 1/4th of the screen (in the center). I guess nobody bothered to test this light before shipping it off because everything else on the borders is dark. Also, the AC (and car) adaptor plug into this battery charger kit, but the kit fits INSIDE the GBA, so I can't plug in the system with AC and play that way.
Is it really that hard for Nintendo to engineer a fucking AC plug on the GBA? What about my goddamn light? A fucking light! Just put a fucking gamma control on the game or something. Why is it that my TV shines the entire room, but my GBA doesn't light up anything? Why is it my $20 watch has a built-in light, but my $70 GBA doesn't?
In any case, I'll need to get another light before I can really enjoy Metroid Fusion.</div>
What you need is an Afterburner

I think the reason Nintendo doesn't include a light is because even the afterburner lowers the battery power time from over 20 hours to under 10 unless you have it on low. Most consumers prefer the much longer battery life than the built in light. If you ever owned a Gamegear or a Nomad you'll understand why.
I had a proffesional install it for me. The website where you can order it is listed through the link.</div>

<div style='font: 11pt ; text-align: left; '>No backlight was due to it sucking up battery power. You can can something, I think called Afterburner, it's only draw back is that it takes up alot of battery power.</div>

What did Penny-Arcade say? I love the thing, just don't install it on your own unless you know exactly what the hell your doing and all the precautions you need to take.

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Seriously, the thing works perfectly, you can't even tell that anything is there, it lights up the entire screen 100% equally so it's like a mini-TV screen. As I mentioned before, your batteries are dead in 10 hours with it, but it's the only choice.
Another thing you can get is a regular game light from Nintendo which isn't back lighting, but it lights up the screen just as well, and it's much much cheaper.</div>

HAHAHAHA, that first one is almost the exact story of what I did =)

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Yeah, one thing, DON'T do it yourself unless you know exactly what you're doing. Yes, there's a dial that controls the brightness and that does save on batteries. I have had no complaints about it at all, the batteries do run out but it's not like Gamegear or Nomad, 6 batteries will still last you 30 hours (except if they're rechargeables, I think those only last 4-5 hours).</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Only 60-65 bucks Canadian, a bit more expensive than the price of a brand new top of the line GBA game after taxes.</div>
