Wow, this game looks strikingly similar to Final Fantasy 7/8 (although quite updated), it's a brand new RPG just announced this Summer by Monolith Soft...

The backgrounds are CG animated similar to those of Final Fantasy 8 for playstation, that is the most obvious point. The setting of the game is an imaginary world which apprently has several different floating continents. I am not sure if it is similar to Skies of Arcadia where the whole game takes place on floating continents, or Chrono Trigger's 12,000 BC, where it's on the surface and on floating continents. The gameplay looks (from the shots I've seen) like an elaborate version of the Skies of Arcadia system where you gain ability points each turn which can be saved up and spent on certain magic and special moves, only that in this game you can apparently combine these attacks. I don't know anymore details.
Either way, this game looks a lot like the Final Fantasy PSX titles, and the reason for that is perhaps because many of the people working on the title are people who worked on Squaresofts PSX Final Fantasy series (according to the IGN article on the game). Other than that not much is known.
More on the setting, I have noticed so far two different area's, one appears to be sort of an European-type place, with flags and banners, and reminded me a lot of Chrono Trigger's 1000 AD Carinval. Another place seems to remind me a lot of Nasrad, a very Middle Eastern type setting similar to Aladdin, with the pillows, the huge vases, etc... Also I noticed something that looks like a candyland? I could be wrong, this could be a winter setting, but it looks very much like Christmas, so much that I suspect the town is a giant Gingerbread City made by Dairy Queen for the Holiday Celebrations =P
In any case, this is the unamed RPG which Namco announced early last Spring. I can't wait to see the final product.</div>
