Two years after its release, and Halo is still the ninth best-selling game in 2004, Q1 (see Gamespot article "Video Game Industry in Decline"). It's official: Halo is the Goldeneye of this generation

I wouldn't compare Halo to Goldeneye, its sales and popularity still aren't anywhere near that level.

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Halo sells well because it is the flagship title of the Xbox; like Mario 64 was on the N64 (another game which sold well for years). Grand Theft Auto 3/Vice City is more like the Goldeneye of this generation. Neither Halo nor Mario 64 ever approached the popularity of Vice City or Goldeneye 007 (even though Mario 64 actually outsold Goldeneye and is the #1 best selling Console game of all time). Yet Goldeneye itself was unique, it was a game that's popularity spread on word of mouth, and not the massive and on-going marketing campaigns that Halo and GTA have received; Goldeneye did not even hit #1 until several months after its release, and it stayed there for a long time. After 2 years the game had sold over 9 million copies world wide, Halo has sold under 4 million world wide after 2 years.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Mario 3 was the best sellilng game of all time, something like $770mil in revenue worldwide (see Game Over). And what i meant by that was that Halo is consistently selling well 2 years after release, which is what Goldeneye did. Even Vice City dropped off after a year</div>

Mario 64 (14M) surpassed Mario Brothers III (13.5M), but if you include Handhelds, the Pokemon series has sold 55 million world wide.

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>But as I said, in order for Halo to be like Goldeneye, it would have to top the charts at #1 more than a year later as Goldeneye did.</div>
