  • PSP: as of now Sony says that they will not approve ports to the system. This could either be very good or very bad. Very bad because it might mean that the company is shutting the door on most of the games, very good as it may convince companies to use e

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>My take on it:

I think that Sony first has to be sure that they are going to have a solid user base. Issues that are important to users for a handheld are the battery life, price point, and also the available software. The pricepoint could be a problem because the system production price is expensive, also the development costs for games will be expensive. The battery life is already known to be very low (only a couple of hours), that is something they could perhaps fix by beefing up the battery, which would add to the cost of production. The amount of software will be dependent on how well the system sells, if a system does not sell well, after a couple of years, it won't be getting much software unless development prices drop. If they allowed ports, even if it doesn't sell well at first, they will still have a steady income of games (even if they are only ports).

We're going to have to wait an see how things turn out in the end, the PSP will be released later on this year, though a delay may be imminent, you can't release a system that only has a handful of games coming out for it in the next year, no one will buy it.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Final system specs have yet to be released. Sony knows the battery life is an issue, I'll be surprised if it isn't higher when it launches.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>They're trying to work out the Lithium battery to make the thing run for a decent length of time right now. You can't have the battery run out after watching one movie</div>

<div style='font: 10pt "EngraversGothic BT", "Copperplate Gothic Light", "Century Gothic"; text-align: left; '>This is actually, in fact, a very minor, and good, thing. Ports from a portable to the real thing are rare, and ALL of them, every single one, completely sucks ass from the greater version on superior hardware.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I unfortunately forget which tech site I read about it, but it talked about Sony looking very aggresively at fuel cell technology. If that's true, that would give it a huge battery life.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>Their formula is similar to what Sony uses for its consoles, they look at what's popular and important (for developers and consumers) in the field and build it into their product. Sony has always had the weakest console in terms of power, but have been on top almost ever since entering the market.</div>

<div style='font: 12pt "Cooper Black"; text-align: left; '>The only problem with the company is their tendency to try and force people to use only Sony brand crap, they need to be a little more free with their liscencing.

Examples:

If you have a Sony digital camera you can only use the Sony memory sticks. Why they couldnt have just used SD or CompactFlash is beyond me.

Instead of being a 'true' mp3 player, Sony's MD players (i do own one and I do like it, however) forces you to recode your mp3's into .ATRAC's and the player will then play the ATRAC's. The first version of their program that loads up your MD player from your computer did not do this automatically so it was very annoying to do it yourself. Luckily, the new version does do it so the only problem is when you use the MD player as a voice recorder you can only upload the file from your player to the CPU as an ATRAC and not an mp3 (the program cant code ATRAC to mp3, only mp3 to ATRAC)

Also with the MD player, you have to use their program to get songs into the MD player. Most other players let you export a playlist from WinAmp or MusicMatch or RealPlayer directly to whatever unit you use, but Sony doesnt liscence jukebox makers to do this with their precious MD's.</div>

<div style='font: 9pt ; text-align: left; '>Sony makes cool products, but usually they're overpriced IMO. And at the plant I work at they're trying to replace 80% of their workers with temporaries. I mean come on that's just evil.

Also I think they might be trying to take over the world. They're like microsoft they try to spread themselves into every field. Soon you'll be eating Sony tv dinners. Which you might already be doing, it's just that Sony doesn't make it known they own that company. :)</div>

<div style='font: 12pt ; text-align: left; '>I don't know if we're talking about the same thing, but I always figured it was a hydrogen electro-chemicle conversion device which requires a hydrogen fuel of some sort, and a steam exsaust pipe, something like that would not work for electronics.</div>
