Sounds like they're developing an SMP (symmetric multi-processor; multiple CPUs) specialized for running games (multiple CPUs to perform graphics and sound tasks).

<div style='font: 10pt verdana; text-align: left; padding: 0% 10% 0% 10%; '>If they also provide a framework that frees programmers from having to worry about parallel processing issues (which are abundant), this could be a big step in console technology. (And perhaps even computing in general.) If there is no framework to protect programmers from taking parallel execution into account, I doubt it will make any difference. And if they do provide a framework (which could be little more than a compiler) and it requires using a special language then games won't be as portable. But maybe they'll just find a way to parallelize the graphics library.
Anyway, my interpretation of what they said and those diagrams might be wrong, but they've at least got my attention - and frankly, I'm more interested in it as a computer scientist than a gamer.</div>
