RETHAL UN-ARMED FIGHTING! THIS IS THE ONE TRUE EXTREME SPORT!
seriously, even after five (six?) years, that game still never fails to impress me.
my friend is pretty badass at it and i hope to at least match him someday. my eddy is pretty good these days, i can change-up like nolan ryan. i think with him it's all about learning how to flow from one move to another and keep it mixed up all the time. i still haven't unlocked panda though! i need my panda...

Garbage, I say. I used to love Tekken (1,2,3), but now it's just Soul Calibur's retarded cousin.

I have no confirmation on this but I have heard from various sources that Namco is gonna be working on Tekken Tag 2 based off the Tekken 5 engine. I really hope this is true, Tekken 5 is badass.

Gee, must I pull out Soul Edge's boring fucking dial-a-combo bullshit? Soul Calibur is just Soul Edge with slightly more intelligence and ripped off ideas from Tekken. Tekken, when it comes down to it, is a ripped off version of Virtua Fighter, but at least it doesn't require you to know any fucking complex SPoD combos.

In truth I don't really even see Tekken and Soul Calibur to be the same type of game. Tekken is made to be more strict and straight, while Soul Calibur is made to be more fluid and fast paced. To truly become good at either takes a lot of time learning the mechanics and style of the characters. As for which will be better, well that all comes down to taste.

Dial-a-combo? Ripped off?
I've always prefered custom combos to presets ala Tekken. This isn't really worth arguing.

Heh...custom combos? Soul Edge was nothing but canned combos. I don't even think it had juggles at the point, or at least juggles that were worth a damn. Tekken has the canned combos, but you don't really use them exclusively. They are there to throw out once in a while, or to use in a juggle, or only go part of the way to switch to something else. After all, no good player would use 10-hits on another good player. VF barely has anything remotely canned.

Truth told I kinda like the Soul Calibur system as far as juggles go. In Tekken its possible to knock someone in the air and kill half their life or more before they hit the ground, and that has always struck me as being somewhat excessive.

Mental: Be rude.
Sine: Soul Calibur 2 is what I refer to, not Soul Edge. I never mentioned Soul Edge.
