Metal Gear Solid 3 kicks a whole lot of ass. (spoilers now)

Seriously, what's not to like? Swappable camo, a lot of weapons, neat gadgets, a wound/healing system that makes sense, a support staff that doesn't annoy the hell out of you (I was laughing my ass off at some of the conversations we had), an interesting close quarters fighting system, tons of easter eggs, and a plot that actually makes the other games make sense.

Plus I clocked in at 27 hours, easily twice MGS 1/2 - and the vast majority of that is actual gameplay, not Codec story-time.

If you haven't yet, check it out, it owns. Play MGS 1 and 2 first so you appreciate it more, though.

I finished it a couple weeks ago, and it does indeed kick plenty of ass. Definetly agreed on the story. I was ignorant on one of the major points until the end, and you know what, I'm glad I was. I'd say more but I don't know how to do spoiler text.

I'd like to play it, but I need to get a working PS2 first.

Oh yeah. I'm glad I knew jack shit about the game and the plot ahead of time.

That's alright. If it's anything like the first two, you'll still know jack shit about the plot when the game ends.

Not this time. Makes damn near perfect sense, really.

Ok, I figured it out. Major spoilers below:

I honestly had no clue until the end that I was playing as Big Boss all the time. I really did think I was playing as Solid Snake during his earlier years when he was young and inexperienced (and the game didn't exactly try to deter you from that line of thinking either). But then you ask, how can you explain the time being 40 years ago and Snake would have to be 70+ years old in MGS2 for that to work? Good old genetic engineering, that's what. :) But then at the end the revelation was simply awesome, because I hadn't spent any time trying to second-guess the plot or identities or anything. I also liked the tidbits of info on the Philosphers (a.k.a. the Patriots) and how it helped explain the end of MGS2 somewhat. But going back to Big Boss, I think the game did a good job of explaining how he eventually lost his way later in the series (i.e. he saw everything as being part of a mission and didn't care as much about the morality of said mission)
