Their stock closed the day approximately 17% down. In one day.

EA, karmically bitchslapped.

I don't really have any sympathy for them either. Aside from Maxis and maybe one or two other dev teams, EA really blows; all they're good for are making the same titles over and over and over again every single year. At least with their Sims titles they add new things in, the sports titles they don't change a thing except the graphics and rosters (which can be done easily with online patch updates).

Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft was singled out as being particularly intrusive in the PC space, which EA has traditionally dominated with its Sims franchise.

"Everybody in the industry has been surprised with World of Warcraft," Larry Probst, EA chairman and chief executive officer, reportedly told analysts in a conference call. "There are people who haven't played games in years who are now spending 20 hours a week playing [the game]... It has had an impact on everyone in the industry."

Heh, it would have made a good short sell stock. Not that I play the stock market game at all.
