Went through my post history and the last post I made was on Nov 30th 2003 lol. I was a lvl 17 monk at the time. Now I'm a lvl 60 Beastmaster. I've also played summoner up to lvl 44, white mage to 37, black mage to 32, and have played all the other jobs to some degree. Been really bored wth the game the past couple weeks, but I think it's just because I've got so much stuff on my mind right now. I'm about to finally leave Korea in a few weeks and go to Alaska, REALLY looking forward to it.
Anyway, like I asked, anyone here still in the world of Vana'Diel?

Gave it up 2 months into it. That's about 1 month more than I usually go for MMOs. I'm swearing off MMOs completely now, since I know that I don't have the attention span for them.

Haven't played it for a year. No plans to jump back in. Ever.

Wow, coming up here again, eh Judgement? Where in Alaska are you going to be at? I'm in Juneau now btw. It's a nice town, even though it rains a bit more than I'm used to and not having a road out sucks ass.
Oh, to make this FFXI related, I quit about a month after I got the game.

I'm considering the game now that it is down to $19.99 in price, I'll have to check and see if that comes with any free months. I don't really want to commit anything, I just want to see what the game is like by more than just a few minutes of play.

I had to quit for a few months and they deleted my lvl 65 paladin, fuck Square.

Manshoon: I'll be stationed at Eielson AFB near Fairbanks, really looking forward to it.
Kent: Wow a 75 bard, congrats. I'd have a job up to 75 if I didn't switch jobs so much lol. I started off as a RDM, then MNK, WHM, BLM, SMN, and finally BST, although I'm starting to get back into RDM again.
Oracle: Sorry to hear that man. >_< I'd be pisseds as hell if that happened to me, even now when I'm honestly pretty bored with the game.

i've been 75 for awhile (the week before CoP came out). honestly, getting BRD to 75 isn't difficult. having done every mission in the game, that's cooler than having a Lv 75 job.
i'm considering taking BST to 75 but really busy with HNM stuff, so no time.

I'm employed now, I have no time for FFXI. It's the grindiest MMOG I've ever seen.

Blah...EQ and DAoC were much worse. I think you were just used to AC, which was almost easy in comparison.

You didn't even get anywhere near the grindy levels, Sine. Nowhere close.

I think nothing compares to EQ's per-fifth-level stacks after level 30. Frankly, I didn't have the patience for even FFXI, though. Building up levels is a grind, period. It's fucking boring, and yet it's the whole damn point of the game.
This won't change until somebody completely re-invents the MMO genre, but everybody's too chickenshit to do that. I mean, hell, an MMO doesn't HAVE to be some RPG-ish level-building exercise where you fight monsters over and over again to gain levels. All MMO means is that you have a bunch of people in the same enivoriment playing in the same universe. Ditch the RPG part of it and try something else. Give me a MMOFPS or MMO action game (like Devil May Cry Online), or a MMO puzzle game, or a MMO fighting game, or a MMO horror game.
The possibilities are endless, but I'm not fucking seeing it right now. It's bad enough that it's taken THIS LONG just to get fucking consoles to get online. I mean, fuck, the Internet has been around and popular for, what, 10-15 years now?

Remember that FFXI's exp curve jumped upward at 50 and did another flying leap past 60. It's trivial early on in comparison.

I'm in the same boat as Sine, played it for a few months (like a bunch of other MMO's) and now have sworn them off due to boredom and due to Tort's reasoning.

I think the whole reason that MMOs are mainly RPG style games is because they require a shitload of time investment to advance. This is what a developer wants, something that is addictive and takes forever to accomplish anything. More money for them :p
