  • How long till you think Square Remakes FFVII?

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Seriously, they've been fuckin with us for years with all the characters from that game that get cameos everywhere, and their latest little video at E3 was just downright cruel. How long till you think we get to see this game redone on a next gen system?

Hopefully never. Let them spend their time on something worthwhile.

I don't think they'll remake it ever (well, maybe in 25 years in some Final Fantasy allstar pack like they did with Dawn of Souls), they also did an FF8 tech demo for the PS2 and that didn't mean remakes either no matter how much Square fans said they were going to do it all last generation.

If anything, I think Square should work with Konami or Sega on a Final Fantasy world sports RPG which includes dozens of cities from throughout the Final Fantasy Universe each with their own set of sports teams.

Yeah, like FF6 remake. That would make much more sense

I also do not think they will remake Final Fantasy III unless it is in a similar way to what they did with Dawn of Souls.

Maybe not, but think of how amazing it would be to have that storyline with today's storytelling and graphics.....

Consider today's storytelling is about as complicated as it was 10 years ago, I fail to see the point.

Complicated does not equal good. Yes, storyline is what saved Xenogears, but it wasn't as good a game as FF6 because it had a fraction of the gameplay.

Presentation is also a big chunk of the experience and with today's technology, you could make a classic game that still holds up well today that much better.

FF6's gameplay is identical to just about every RPG in existence. The story has no focus because the story depends on who you have in your party, and if you go with a party like Gau Umaro Mog Gogo then you're effectively detached from the entire gaming world. Even barring some rather unusual party combinations, most characters simply have nothing to do with other people for party combination to have meaning.

And incidentally I didn't think Xenogear's plot was all that great to begin with.

Are you talking about plot or actual dialogue quality? Xenogears was the first Square game to have good dialogue, every single one before it had fairly poor quality dialogue.

I liked Xenogears quite a bit. I liked the plot quite a bit as well, it is one of the few games that I have done a lot of reading on; possibly because it was available in Perfect Works. I do also do not believe that Xenogears has a fraction of the gameplay, it has a fairly strong adventure element to it, and I liked that quite a lot, probably my favourite aspect of the game.

I have no interest in Square remakes. I have interest in new Square games.

I mean, shit, even though FFIV's my favorite of the lot, if they gave it the FFX graphic/sound treatment I doubt I'd buy it.

Xenogear's dialogue was passable. No RPG has good dialogue besides Vagrant Story and that's because the translation guy decided to not adhere to the script. Most of PW's information was just information for information sakes, like what is a Xenogears unit of length translate to real world terms, how high above the ground Shevat really is, and all the important Miangs (all 9999 of them) in the history of the Xenogears world. The plot was decent, but suffers from the usual problem of other characters besides the main ones having no significance whatsoever in the grand scheme of things.

How long before this thread gets moved to GT? Oh, and I love the Rejected avatar, Eric.
