Anyone playing Battlefield 2?

I'm not the biggest PC FPS player, but this one looks pretty sweet. Even if it is published by the Evil EA.

Barret? Ish? Flip?

Before I pick it up I want to know that I can get my ass handed to me by people I sorta know, rather than complete strangers.

More of a Counter Strike player myself. Obviously i've heard of Battlefield 1942 and the new one, but have only messed around briefly at a friends house on the old one.

There defenitely is multiplayer and on 1942 i am 95% sure you could set up private games if you wanted to play with your friends. The community itself is large and there are clans if you wanted to go that route and play with familiar strangers.

I've never had a problem shooting aliens, but something about recreating WWII kinda creeps me out, thats just me though, i've heard both are really good. 1up.com gave it a 9.2 out of 10, which is great.

I like 1942 and I played the demo of BF2 all last week. It's a fun game. I'm considering picking it up retail.

Flip, BF2 is not WWII. It is current/futuristic warfare.

I got all the WWII lovin I needed from the excellent Red Orchestra mod for UT4.

I'm tempted to pick up BF2 for the sole purpose of playing a medic and killing people with the defibrilator.

That's not enough of an incentive, though, and I didn't play 1942 all that much.

What I'd do if I was feeling sufficiently griefy would be to go on a server with friendly fire, and find a man down.

"Clear!" *bzzt* "Hey, thanks!" "Clear!" *bzzzt* "AIEEEEE"

Repeat as desired.

Hmmm...a Team Fortress type game? (Or better yet, closer to WeaponsFactory, ie. more classes and more options to play with)

I'm too poor to buy it at the moment.

I played for about 2 1/2 hrs last night. Mostly as a Medic, Anti-Tanker or an Engineer.

Defribrilator was a hoot! My fav was killing a TM that was low on health, then shocking him back with more health. Some didn't get it, others did. I'm sure they'll nerf that pretty quickly. Or maybe not with the Ranking thing they have, I'm sure I got screwed by the TeamKills. Whatever, we won the map.

Engineer was trickier by far unless you got into a vehicle. You are armed with a shotgun, so absolutely no range at all. In close you are a demon however. Fixing Tanks, APC's and Choppers when needed is a huge boon to your team in a 32 vs 32 game.

Anti-Tank is just fun. Big gun, big fun. Firing into a cluster of ppl is amusing as well.

I still suck, but was able to finish 3rd and 4th on my team for the last 2 maps. Still a hellofalot I don't know how to do. ie, pilot a Chopper or Jet fighter. They command relay stuff is stumping me at the moment as well.

Geeze? A BF42 topic and no one seeks my input...? Gosh, I am only one of the best pub/clan players out there...which is funny considering how much I hate every other FPS out there.

Anyway, I neglected to pick up BF2 because I was in the process of moving into a new place and working on part of a project (handed in today, organizing my place will be ongoing). I'll pick it up tomorrow or Friday and begin delivering fresh asskickings asap. I'll likely use the nick Pulp for pub games, so any of you post the servers you frequent and I'll keep an eye out for ya.

KO-

Sound interesting. I love these type of games. Wish people would play these instead of fucking Counterstrike all the time.

Kali, I'm PegLeggedPirate but other than the Ctrl Alt Del server don't really have a 'set' place I'm playing yet.

CAD server is CAD/8BT Ranked US01

I should say, let me know what server YOU play at and I'll try to get in there.

Kali, if I get it, I'm Imakeholesinu. I'll probably play on some server, but I'm not sure if I'm going to play that often since the gf is coming back soon and I still haven't gotten a check from work.

Unfortunately, it is far too accurate a portrayal if you play on a 'Ranked' server.

Main reason I play on the CAD/8BT private servers as much as possible when ppl are actually in there. You don't get that asshatery.

Sir, the word is spelled "asshattery".

Yeah, Craigslist is where the real asshatery is.

Even if a thread has just finished, you've only got to wait a day or two before another "I hate fat chicks" (or in the Boston CL parlance, "seacows") thread goes up and you get all the asshatery you can handle.
