FFX: Tiresome Exposition Weekly

It would be daily, but I'm working too hard and sometimes I just can't stand to wade through all the exposition. Penny Arcade's old strip describes it perfectly.
I mean, some of the voice acting is good (everyone except Yuna, Lulu, and Kimahri) and it's certainly beautiful...but what the hell? Everyone...talks...so...much...and just when I thought it couldn't get more pronounced, I'm at Home (the game is paused) and Wakka just started running in slow motion. This game needs to take itself less seriously...

Oooooh! Cid just threw Tidus on his ass. That part I like anyway. Maybe it'll shut him up.

You may be playing the wrong genre for you. Personally, i like lots of story in my RPG's in either text or voice form, it is part of what defines an RPG as an RPG.

I love story, but not badly written story and/or tiresome exposition.
I feel like some of it is very, very good, and some of it would make your average Saturday morning cartoon ashamed.

You don't have to listen to the part that isn't interesting to you. This isn't like Xenosaga or MGS where you can potentially miss a huge chunk of dialogue by skipping since the words still get displayed on the screen.

I turned off the subtitles way way back since I felt it made a more immersive experience. But what are you suggesting? Even if I turn them back on, do I stick my fingers in my ears every time Wakka starts moaning about the Al Bhed? It's not like the dialogue can be skipped, at least in my current game. It's still going to take forever.

I thought hitting the X button or something makes it skip to the next dialogue unless it's in the middle of a CG (but they don't say much in those anyway). There are some parts where the speaking is scripted and you've to listen but most of the parts I think you can skip them. Though it's been a while since I played.

I have not experienced said behavior. Trust me, I've mashed the crap out of the buttons while some of the characters have been expounding at length on something or another.
