I picked up this game a few days ago. I got it for fairly cheap as well, but I have to say, it takes what was great about the first one and improves on it heavily. This is one of the best fighting games currently available. I know story isn't important in fighting games, but this one has a lot of story to it, and it's actually fairly good; the cinematic sequences are very high quality, better than most RPGs.

As far as things go, the story ends right where Vendetta left off. D-Mob is on his way to prison when a car speeds out of no where crashing into the vehicle transfering D-Mob and he escapes (similar to how Kimble escapes in the Fugitive, only this one was caused by outside forces). The next scene shows a cop giving a description of the guy who busted D-mob out, and you create your character, right down from the shape of his face and so on, that becomes the look of your character. Next you have a list of fighting styles to choose from, and this becomes your basic fighting form. There are literally hundreds of ways to finish off your opponents in this game, you start off with one finisher, you can learn more later, and can assign up to 4 onto your character. Finishers aren't the only way of doing away with an opponent, they are just one way of going about it; different levels have different things in the environment that you can use to finish off your opponent. As you go on, you can learn more moves, increase certain attributes (punching, endurance, speed, kicking, etc...). Also, money can be gained, money is used to buy things, I am not exactly sure what value it has to the gameplay, but I do have 20,000 dollars in jeweled rings, a 10,000 dollar diamond chain, and essentially the character looks like a pimp =)

As time goes on, new items come in, new jewelry, new shoes, pants, jackets, tatoo styles, etc... There are thousands of things you can buy in this game. Looks like they took some hints from the Sims and added this in. I even managed to find the same shoes I actually own (brand names and all), the same shirts, and pants. The game starts off with a limited selection, but as time goes on better items, wider varieties of items, etc.. come in. The game uses the logic that the people running the stores have ties to your gang, the more successful you are as a fighter, the more successful your gang is, and therefore the more successful these stores are (or something like that).

You can win cars as well in certain tournaments during the story mode. There are also dozens of different fighters, including over 40 based on actual rap and hip hop musicians (I LOVED beating the hell out of Fat Joe and Sean Paul.) including Snoop Dogg =)

There are a lot of different locations to fight as well, from wrestling rings, to bars, to junk yards, to Martial Arts clubs, clubs, the subway, office buildings.... actually there are too many to mention, and I haven't been through most of the locations yet. Much more creative than your standard fighting game locations which are essentially the same thing with small variations.

This game has a TON packed into it. I bought the original Vendetta as a joke; "a fighting game about rappers" and was highly surprised at te high quality of the game. But don't get the PS2 version, there are terrible framerate problems with it from what I read on the reviews. The Gamecube and Xbox versions are both great.
