I CAN'T put it to words how much I love Uncharted Waters: 2. I was hoping at the very least that they would port that game over to Gameboy advance, but to have a BRAND NEW game for the DS just thrills me beyond belief. When I say obsessed, that is an understatement, this is one of the few rare games that I can sit alone with and play for hours on end; Sim Tower and Civilization are perhaps the only other two I have before; that I can think of at the moment.

Uncharted Waters is a role playing game with heavy simulation elements, such as trade, experience, fleet growth, crew growth, gambling, prospering, etc.. It features the main character picking one of several playable characters (usually from various European nations, Spain, England, Netherlands, France...) and the character follows a storyline. However, much of the fun comes with gaining new officers at various ports throughout the game, hiring crew, battling pirates, waging war against other nations, conquest, etc... One of my favourite features was that the player had the ability to make investments in certain ports, and expand their national trade empire. Do a lot of good, and likely the King will promote the character to a higher noble ranking. Another feature I really like is the vast number of cities in the game, over a hundred I think, and each one relatively unique, more unique based on where you are in the world; a Japanese city would be VERY different from a European one. The cities aren't ultra advanced, most of them are essentially like those seen in games like Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls 1 and 2; only there are greater numbers of functional buildings (weapon shops, item shops, trade guild, etc...). There are also places which you can name, I hope in the new one players will be able to build and contruct their own colonies, even if at only pre-determined locations, and gather settlers (similar to Cresent Island in Skies of Arcadia).

There aren't any screen shots yet or additional information. I would speculate that they will include multiplayer online features within the game since KOEI seems to be going in that direction with another DS project Nobunaga's Ambition DS.

WOW, all I can say is, I can't f***ing wait for this one.

I bought a DS for my little sister a few months ago. I almost stole it to buy and play Advance Wars. If this announcement is true, I believe its time to slip into my parents house and raid her room...

The series in Japan has advanced, there are three versions that were not released in North America; and likely never will be.

Some of the advancements made since Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons

1) Characters are now able to go inland
2) Characters are able to secure marriages and have children (hopefully this will translate into political marriages to secure Alliances and such, no game in this genre has done this yet. Do the Japanese grasp this concept?).
3) Main characters are no longer limited to European, the last game had two Asian and one Carribean character.
4) The concept of aging, retirement, and children growing up to take the place of their fathers when the time comes.
5) In the latest version they decided to try something different though, and removed time as a factor and place more emphasis on story; whether the latest version will follow this path or the path closer to simulation remains to be seen; hopefully they just combine the two concepts.
