I haven't bought SC3 yet but there seems to be a mode that lets you create your own character. I found this site that has a bunch of them. The site is in Japanese but the picture should still all work. How many characters can you recognize?

On a related note, anyone playing Soul Calibur 3 at the moment?

Some of those were actually quite well recreated (although last time I checked, Blanka wasn't a chick).

Heh, we've made a few characters including Edward (the Longshanks) and Hitler.

As for the game itself, I do recommend buying it if you are a fan of the series like I am and have to get them all. In short though, the single player modes suck compared to the last two games. The "Create a Player" mode is too shallow, there are a lot of games out there that do it a lot better. The graphics and sound are fairly similar, if a slight decline from the last game; I have noticed that there's some choppiness and blurriness that did not exist in the second game.

If you are not a fan of the series and already own either the Dreamcast version or Soul Calibur 2, then I would pass on this one unless you can find it for a good price used. The gameplay is largely the same as the others, and there aren't really any major improvements, and some annoyances in the changes. Still, negating the first two Soul Calibur games, this one is still one of the best fighters available. If you do not have any Soul Calibur game and have a PS2, then I would say get this one, but you should have got the second =)

I thought the first Soul Calibur game was better than the second.

I also agree that the first is better than the second, actually.

I'd be very surprised if it doesn't wind up as a Greatest Hit sometime down the line.

Boycotting this bullshit until it's released on Xbox or 360 with a goddamn online mode. For shame, Namco.

You'll be waiting forever; the game will remain a PS2 exclusive according to Namco press releases. Soul Calibur 4 may appear on Xbox 360 though.

On how well SC3 is going to sell overall, I think it will be quite a bit less than Soul Calibur 2 (which sold millions), mainly because there does not seem to be nearly as much hype for the game.

No way. The second was a minor refinement of the first, so it wasn't the jump you got with the DC version, but it was a little bit better. Just a shade smoother and faster and more balanced.

Perhaps there were some minor improvements, but there were also a lot of things that the original did quite a bit better: Storymode and music were significantly better in the original (at least from my perspective). I also didn't enjoy many of the new "enhancements": I didn't like the new characters as much as most of the older ones; I did not like some of the changes that had been made to the fighting styles of my older favourites.

The dislike I have might be due to the amount of time that I played the original. Everything is subjective though, I don't think there is any way to objectively show that either one is better (aside from graphical quality).

SC2 didn't really add much especially for the 'go around the world getting stuff' mode. It was good the first time you see it in SC1 but by the second time it wasn't as exciting. Also the unlocking gallery/extras mechanism in SC1 was better. Music is subjective but I liked SC1 better too.

I will definitely pick up SC3 at some point in the future. It's on the same list as every other great game I haven't had time to play because I've been working too hard.

I saw it at Best Buy, and though I didn't check out the Create Character mode, it's a beautiful game. Slightly irked, though, that they changed everyone's control scheme...and I'd practiced Summon Suffering for so long...

I dunno with SC3 it seemed to flow better than 2 did. Plus Maxi can finally catch his weapon and bloc faster than in 2 . I've been having a ton of fun and it's good to have siegfried back with his own aresenal of moves instead of being a pallet swap of nightmare.....and he rock.....

I did create a couple fun characters. I made a Harley Quinn that actually kind of looks like her and uses a giant hammer......wooohooooo

I've created a ton of characters and am having a lot of fun with it.....but yeah.....some characters were made worse some better. In 2 I loved Talim now I can barely use her. But I can totally rock with Maxi and Xianghua
