Anyone else get it? Being someone who has loved the draghon games since he first played the first one. I'm absolutely loving the game. it's challenging, it's fun, it's interesting, the dubbing actually works after getting used to the fact that it's very very european with stereotypes from every country. it's fun. I actually havn't enjoyed an RPG this much in a long while.
After I finish I'm jump[ing on to play Magna Carta to see how that is as it seems like it could be pretty decent....
Oy and FFXII......yeah I hope to god it changes because if not, it's freaking horrible

Dragon Quest VIII is great, it's a traditional RPG. Basic battle system. Nice graphics, cute story. It's just a fun game to play.
Final Fantasy XII is just....meh
I hope to god the story is awesome because I don't like the gameplay, it's like they just eliminated everything they learned through 1-10, and overhauled it for this. It's not Final Fantsasy, I don't know what it is. They should just change the name and then make another Final Fantasy XII, cause this ain't it.

A lot of people said that Final Fantasy 7 wasn't Final Fantasy either.
Anyways, as far as Dragon Quest 8 goes, I'm looking into getting it as soon as I can manage a way to sneak in some sort of a discount. I am starved for a new console RPG, it has been a long time since we've had one of this calibur. I have quite a liking for this series. It has not changed a whole lot since the third installment of the game, but it never had a need to.

The presentation is perfect.
From the wonderfully orchestrated music to finally seeing the monsters and characters fully animated. The dances had me laughing for a good 2 minutes the first time I saw one.
I also don't think it's just nostalgia talking, this game is just fun. I'll take simplified old school gameplay over the new shit rpg anyday. FFXII.... yeah. Maybe when it's a greatest hit. Maybe.

God, you guys are poo-pooing over the newest FF before it even comes out? Have faith in Squenix's ability to pull off an experimental concept, especially since you're trashing the same company that gave you the game that you're praising right now.[/b]

Sine, DQ8 came with a demo of FFXII. Based on that, which I played for about 2 hours, I'll say that it's a good game but not on my 'must have' list.
I also wasn't really enthralled by FFX, so maybe that's colouring my perception of the game.

Just basing my opinion off the demo I played.

I haven't played the demo yet. Almost all accounts I have heard of it have been extremely positive (this is the only place, and one post somewhere else) that had a negative response (and that other post no one seemed to trust as being real since the guy is obviously anti-Square and likely did not play the demo).
One thing that I should note, the demo uses mission style gameplay, this is not part of the full game.
There were people who fell into the unsure category as well, mainly because the demo was limited, they wanted to explore a lot more than they could.
The game is still in development for about another 5 months, so things might feel unpolished.

From what I gather, it is similar to Knights of the Old Republic. Is this true?

The game looks gorgeous (FFXII), no doubt about it. And yes the Mission play type sucked. But besides all that, I was still dissappointed in the demo. But I handed in my 'Hardcore' gamer badge this week anyway, so what do I know.

hahaha gray.....and seek no it was going more for the Final Fantasy 11 type battle system with combos and mmo feel....unfortunately if it doesn't change by the end it ain't on my buy list.....I mean it will be a rental followed by a maybe buy depending on the rent. Like magna carta joined my buy list today after renting.........holy shit that's an insane battle system.....like shadow hearts if you ramped up the difficulty......really thank god I played a ton of of the beat games to get them button presses down because it's gets tough.....but it definitely is fun....
but gray you turn in your hardcore gamer card? never......
