If it gets good reviews, it will be the first don't-miss movie for me in years. I'm excited (and not just a little scared) to see how the whole fanbase-helped-the-creative-process-over-the-internet thing turned out.

It isnt going to show pre-screenings. I read that somplace, so there will be no reviews before it hits the theatres. The producers think it will add to its mistique, lol. Its gonna rock.

This goes in M&M, stupid!

I'll see it opening night. I'm going to be one of those douchebags in the theatre screaming "Snakes on a muthafuckin plane!"

Whenever a movie doesn't allow reviews ahead of time, it's 'cause the producers want it to get a full weekend under its belt before the bad reviews come out. This is particularly important considering most movies make something like 40-50% of their total take in the first weekend.

And from what I've seen of this movie, it's going to be very light on everything but snakes on an airplane (I mean plot, characters, etc.), so they REALLY don't want anyone to talk about it at all before it hits theatres, particularly considering how much hype it's already generated with the people who'll actually pay to see it.

I dunno if that means it's necessarily bad. It might be, but it also might be that the suits are so terrified of anything innovative and interesting that they just refuse to get behind it.

I hope it's tremendous and that the suits all end up looking like idiots, personally.

It is going to be a crappy B horror movie, but that is why it is also going to rule. Do not expect good reviews, just enjoy it for what it will be. I'm excited and will see it the weekend it comes out.

Although suitsdo often botch the release of films they don't understand with poor marketing campaigns (Starship Troopers, Solaris, and Princess Bride are prime examples), this isn't the case with this one if you hear Sam Jackson and the director talk. There really is nothing to the film other than snakes on a plane. Not to say it's going to be horrid, it's just going to have nothing to it even by the admission of those involved. So, in order for me to like it, it'll have to be pure fun and that's not something I'm willing to pay for now since the majority of films like that just end up bad. I may end up buying the DVD later if I love it just so I can watch for some light fun, but I ain't payin' coin to find out first.

Seinfeld was another example of a piece of entertainment that had nothing to it...

Seinfeld was about nothing, but it had plenty to it. Funny characters and different but interesting storylines and just kinda made fun of life in general; great subjects for a comedy show. They also kept long-running jokes and plot points (Art Vandaly, for instance) and I believe was one of the first shows to do so. It's a staple of HBO shows and one of the main reasons they're seen as having more depth (they make you keep track of the show from year to year which is unlike traditional sitcoms). Arrested Development was like that. And comedy is different than horror movies, it's more about the acting than the atmosphere or subject matter.

Snakes on a Plane is just that likely with a plot thrown together to connect the scenes only. Again, I could be wrong and it could be fun regardless, but I'm not paying to find out.

Yeah, you're right. It's might be like all those internet videos with no point, that aren't entertaining, and haven't really caught on or become legendary in the Internet public consciousness...like Bananaphone/Badger Badger Badger, the Hampsterdance, or that dancing baby...

;D

Not saying it couldn't be bad, too. But you'd be surprised how much "nothing" tends to be a fertile comedy vehicle. I do hope they haven't taken the movie too seriously.

I mean, I think it's highly likely that they've screwed something up. If they did it right, however, I think a movie that's nothing but a cheesy but creative B-movie horror flick that isn't being taken too seriously could be fricking hilarious. You'd be surprised how much "nothing" tends to be a fertile comedy vehicle. I do hope they haven't taken the movie too seriously.

If it has a sense of humour and moves along relatively well, it could very well turn out to be a fun movie with no depth; especially if it can pull off camp well, which is VERY hard to do. Nothing wrong with that, movies are supposed to be entertainment after all. I'm just skeptial 'cause the vast majority of them just turn out bad. But I'm definetely up for a download or watching it on a satellite.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend was another like that. I was interested to see it but didn't want to pay for it. I watched all but the last 20 minutes last night on my way home from work on the PSP and it's turned out to be a fun little movie. Not something that you're going to rush out and buy on DVD right away due to its awesomeness, but fun to watch and definetely one to pick up for fun if the price is right (ie. under $7). But I'm sure it would have been a little disappointed or blaze towards it had I paid to see it in the theatre.
