UFC: Anderson Silva destroyed Rich Franklin, new MW Champion

Pretty much turned out like the last one, Ortiz beat the hell out of Shamrock. If anyone watched the last Tough Enough and remember Ed Herman (The guy who Tito Ortiz allegedly "toyed" a lot with, the annoying one with the red hair), they were feeding this no-name to him named Jason Macdonald, but somehow Jason Macdonald turned out to be in a whole different class than Herman, and I think Dana probably regrets his decision to make this fight; kind of reminds me of the time the Octopus ate the shark =P

So Jason Macdonald beat the hell out of Ed Herman until Herman submitted to a brutal ttriangle after about 2 minutes. Other than that, there's not much to speak of.

I don't think that Canadian was a "whole different class" than Ed - it was a pretty solid fight full of reversals. Ed reversed the mount solidly but fell into the triangle. You sure as hell gotta give Ed credit for attempting to battle out, even though it was fully locked in.

Great fight, both fighters looked good imo.

I passed out just before the Kendall fight (woke up to see the Ortiz/Shamrock fight thanks to a random phone call)...how was that fight?

Kendall decisively won. He was landing punches and elbows from within an open guard, and the other guy tapped out. (According to what they said, I didn't actually see the tap out.)

I agree about the MacDonald fight, except that MacDonald might have let Herman out of mount in order to sink the triangle. But it was an exciting fight with some great jiu-jitsu.

Not UFC related, but I am wondering if Cro Cop can be the first one to take down Fedor the next time they meet (in 3 months). He is one of the best kickboxers in the world, and reminds me a lot of the legendary Andy Hug (RIP). Cro Cop is also easily the best kickboxing/wrestler that MMA has ever seen. The only problem, is Fedor is actually almost as good of a striker, and Fedor is an incredible wrestler, and few people can match his submission skills, when he locks one in, it's over. Strengthwise, Fedor has Cro Cop beaten, and Cro Cop is STRONG.

Of course, Fedor has to get past Coleman as well, Coleman has that freakish old man strength; it has earned him the nickname by some "Roid Rage," because he also has an incredible temper. Anyone at any time can lose to Coleman, Coleman even defeated Shogun. Though, Shogun may be one of the best in the world today, Fedor is in a league of his own. I expect Fedor to submit Coleman in a matter of minutes. It would be something if Coleman managed to be the first to defeat Fedor (well, Fedor does have a loss on his record from early in his career, but it was a highly disputed loss that was due to a cut).

Well, the PPV went pretty much as expected. Sherk defeated Florian, though it was a decision call and won the vacant lightweight title.

Next up Anderson Silva demolished Rich Franklin and took the title by knockout 3 minutes into the first round. Now UFC has a worthy champion in that division. I don't expect anyone to come close to taking that title from him until UFC signs another good fighter for that division.

It was a pretty boring fight. Anderson got the Muy Thai clench on Rich and that was pretty much it.

And Rich is going to need one hell of a nose surgeon. I don't think I've ever seen a nose broken quite like that.

Wait until this coming weekend for the Real Deal. The card is not very competetive, but it has a lot of big names on it. For people who just enjoy seeing blood, bruises, and possibly broken bones, this is the card for you. In the very least, it will be a good showcase of a lot of PRIDE fighters to the mainstream North American media. The card is filled with former champions, current champions, and olympians; in fact the only one on there who isn't decorated is Shawn O'Haire (who is fighting Butterbean in a match-up that seems to be purely for the celebrity status of the two), unless you consider the WWE Intercontinental Title =P

Now, it's not like Nastula, Randleman, Coleman, and Belfort are bad fighters, they are all very good. Belfort was, at a time, one of the top 3 fighters in the UFC. Though, it has to be said that guys like Barnett (who was once, by far, the best in the UFC, he took Randy down easily and convincingly when Randy was at his peak), Fedor, Shogun, and Hendo are just on a completely different level. Coleman had an upset victory over Shogun, but it was very very far from convincing; Shogun lost because of a dislocated elbow on a takedown.
