I got a chance to see it last night with one of my roommates (Lindsey, some of you know her through Metroid Prime Hunters); her opinion was quite similar to mine (with the addition that she thinks Daniel Craig is "smokin'") in that she loved the movie.

Craig is certainly not the refined pretty-boy wimp that Brosnan was in the previous 4 movies. He is a much better Bond and seemed to embrace the role much better than Brosnan.

The writing credits go to the critically acclaimed Paul Haggis (Crash and Million Dollar Baby), and it really showed through. The story really breathed back into the Bond series, the spirit of the older movies not seen since the 1980's. This was no Generic action flick based on the Bond license (as I would judge Brosnan's movies), but a true Bond movie.

I am really looking forward to Craig's next film. I am also glad that this movie shut all those naysayers up (including the ones here at the Shrine =P). So much for their adamant prediction of Craig being a collosal failure and having a one time deal.

I always thought of Brosnan as a great Bond, it's just that his scripts were utter garbage. The best one by far was Goldeneye and the game was better than the movie (how often can you say that?). Sure you got to see Famke Janssen in all her young hotness, but it didn't save a mediocre film at best. And they just got worse. If he had been in the two Dalton films like he was supposed to be, a lot of people would be talking about him as a great Bond. Those were actually pretty good movies but people just didn't accept Dalton, who wasn't bad at all.

I saw it Tuesday night and I completely agree with you, Seek.

I liked that Craig brought some of the macho toughness back to Bond that I felt Connery had. He has charisma throughout but not so much that it's unbelievable. I liked that when he got beat up, the next scene showed him cut and bruised. It felt more real to me. I liked how gritty this movie was.

I liked Brosnan, at least in his first 2 movies, but he got knocked down a peg after seeing Craig as Bond.

I saw it last night and loved it. Second best movie of the year i have seen next to The Departed.

I'm not sure if the movie being really good had a lot to do with Craig, though. I think Brosnan may have been able to pul off the more serious tone that this film was shot in. He has done some really good serious roles like in The Tailor of Panama. The more recent Bond films have been formulatic action movie shit. Throw in gadgets, quips, huge explotions, wrap it up and sell... This movie was written and directed fantastically to give it a very different feel. Man, i wish Brosnan had this kind of script to work with, Bond had so much more emotion and character depth then ever.

Just remember....I said it first. Craig is the fucking man. "Now everyone in the world will know you scratched my balls."

No you didn't! I recognized Craig as a good Bond before you said anything about it! =P

I just meant that I was saying that I was the first to report that Daniel Craig...is the fucking man.

Finally saw it myself. I was never that much of a Bond fan before. Now I am. GREAT script, great direction, and they found a good person in Craig to play the part. Everything came together with this one.
