I can't believe they've blasted them this much already for the PS3

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6163441.html

Geez, man, it's only the first month. What'll they say when the PS3 is the leader after next year? "Ooops, we were wrong?"

For a magazine that's supposedly respected, they're jumping the gun far too early here

I think they are saying that the console is currently a bust, which I agree with. Name two games that are must haves for the system. It had a poor launch, and even poorer quantities of consoles.

And Zeus' point is that having a weak launch doesn't mean the console will fail. The PS2 launch was stronger than this (if I recall correctly), but it wasn't spectacular. The games were forgettable, the main thing they had going for them were "Oooh, pretty."

The PS2 launch was definetely better, but it was weak-ass as well (best game was Tekken Tag Tournament for cryin' out loud). Now, I don't necessarily disagree with what Time said, but to say "it's a failure" and use other strong language is very premature. Like I've said before, I think they're going to be first but lose a lot of share. Time is using much stronger assumptions and language here.

Though, the PS2 hype was considerably higher than the PS3 hype. The PS2 was sold out for months, the PS3 was sold out for a bit less than a month, and with lower supply.

The PS2 was the system for casual gamers last generation, the PS3 certainly is not that. The PS2 was Coca Cola, the PS3 is Coca Cola brand wine.

We can't make that determination yet. PS3 is still impossible to find, anything that's shipped sells instantly, same with the Wii. We're not going to know the popularity (or lack thereof) of the PS3 'til next year. Next Xmas, when MGS4 (you can bet your ass Sony pays through the nose for that exclusive after losing GTA4), Mario Galaxy, and Halo 3 come out and the Wii and PS3 have a full year under their belts is when we'll see truly where each company stands. All sales up to this point are skewed.

PS3 is not selling off the shelves anymore. That's the thing. There are about a dozen units currently sitting on store shelves in my town alone (at least as of yesterday around noon). I do think Lox and/or Mac were both saying the same thing as far back as 2 weeks ago.

I don't remember mentioning the PS3 selling out at all. :)

I can tell you that around here, the Wii is still garnering 100-person lines at every store in the area. My friend and I showed up at Target at 5:30 this past Sunday. Still didn't get one.

Are you sure about that? Because I know a lot of people from Toronto who are saying quite differently.

I always see PS3s on the shelves in Regina. Wii's are still generating lineups either the night before rumored shipments are coming in, or early in the morning.

Honestly, the Wii is a great, relatively cheap, xmas gift for a gamer. We'll really see what demand is like AFTER xmas when all the presents/ebay items are bought up and we're left with gamers who want the systems (even tho I know that its usually the gamers who line up for a Wii anyways).

Yeah. I have a cuz of mine lookin' all over Mississauga and Hamilton for a PS3 and he can't get one. I go to the stores in KW all the time and they go relatively quickly there. It's not like I walk into a Best Buy or Futureshop (i go there almost weekly) and see an abundance of systems available. And judging by the 'Net reports, they're selling out, there's just not many of them available.

People may have given up on trying to get one as it's pretty much common knowledge that they're hard to get, that's why you don't see lineups IMO. But if it's known they're there, they sell. They don't sit overly long from what I know.
