Though none of the series is online, and these are both movies that you will probably need background character info for.

Tenchi Forever sucked something firece. I did enjoy the first one alot though. That and Fatal Fury: Motion Picture were some of the earliest animes I saw.

I think the Tenchi movies are random enough that having no background of the series is okay once you're aware of the premise all these inexplicably powerful/important girls are all around this guy on Earth for no apparent reason.

The first one is still one of my favourite animated films ever. The second one is not nearly as good, but I didn't find it to be terrible either; it did leave something to be desired though.
