OK, going back to the city with my friends and wife in the summer (I posted about my trip there last summer). This time, we'll be spending Friday night to Monday afternoon with Monday night being a baseball game at Yankees Stadium. Gotta go to that place before it shuts down after next year.

If any of you guys have experience with hotels down there it'll help. We're looking for a hotel right in Manhattan beside the subway line (no more than a few blocks away) for about $200-$250 US a night per room with 4 people. Also don't know how the parking works down there but we'll need that as we're driving down.

So, wondering if you guys could give me good ideas on what you've done there, would like to do there, etc. What attractions other than the Empire State Building, American Museum of Natural History, World Trade Centre site, Statue, Times Square, Rockerfeller Centre, Central Park would you guys recommend or are interested in?

Also, any good shows, on or off Broadway that you think are good? I'm interested in Spamalot but don't know about too many others. Things like Rent, Grease, Mama Mia, Hairspray, Lion King or the Producers (or other really big ones) we have here so not overly interested.

What about places to eat? We want some nice, authentic New York food. Italian (can't leave there without a good New York pizza), Chinese (in Chinatown, preferably), a nice deli, etc. A good pub one night would be fun as hell too. I think some of my friends wanna go to a club so any ideas there would.

And anything else you guys can think of would be nice.

He's insisting you kids get hopped up on goofballs while you're there.

My buddy and I planned a NY day also this year. The Yankee tickets went on sale to the public yesterday so we jumped on 4 for a saturday game. The train from here to NY is only 3 hours and we have friends we can stay with once there, should be a hoot.

I got 4 tickets to see the Blue Jays waste the Yankees just after the all-star break. Should be fun. I wanted to make sure I saw a game at that stadium before it's torn down.

Fenway's next on my list followed by Wrigley. And if Favre is playing next year, I'm doing everything in my power to get Packers tickets in Wisconson

I was there not too long ago - unfortunately, I had a friend showing me around, so I don't remember a lot of specifics. Pretty much every hotel is "near the subway"...we stayed at a great hotel about 5 blocks (a good walk in New York :) down one of the main streets into Times Square, just past some major jewelery blocks (I really can't remember the name, but it was a big chain and had an awesome little Thai place next store...Marriot maybe?).

Buddah Bar was pretty swank and worth going to. Shopping is awesome. Saw the Producers because everything else was sold out at that TiKets booth...but it was actually really damn good. The bus tour was surprisingly good, and probably a better way to get around the city than the subway.

I really wish I could remember the names of some pretty nice restraunts and clubs we hit - but I'm drawing a blank. If I went back, I'd definately hit more shows and try to get into one of the "Talk Show" audiences...

Pick up a Frommers book if in doubt, I always grab one when travelling.

Frommers book?

Bus tour, maybe we'll do that. Give us an idea of what's around the city.

I've already seen Conan and Leno and would like to see SNL but I don't think they film in the summer. Letterman maybe but I'm not going to be there during the day. We're arriving Friday night and leaving Monday afternoon, so anything other than SNL is out.

We may have found a decent hotel by the AMHN and Central Park, I'll check that one out.

Did you know of the Sopranos Tour where they take you to locations in the show, including Bada Bing? Neat, but not worth the $42US

Yeah, Frommers. It's a brand of travel books and a pretty solid source of updated and accurate info, on resteraunts, hot spots and things to do. Highly recommend you head to Chapters Bookstore or something and grab one. The sooner the better as it will give you plenty of ideas to plan ahead for.

And yes, I highly recommend getting around the city in the Tour Buses. It's cheap, convienent and takes you pretty much everywhere you'd want to go... SoHo, Harlem, Chinatown, you name it - very interesting too.

Too bad you didn't plan this a few weeks ago and thus, miss out on a chance to party-it-up with Miss USA Tara Conner. Now she's (supposedly) clean and sober, which is no fun at all. :)

Ours is July 16th, the Monday. It's the end of our trip there, so it'll be a good way to wind down.
