  • 360 optical drives quieter

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

I can attest to this. I sent my POS system back to Microshaft to have them fix the issue with the locking up during booting and I noticed that now, not only does the 360 not lock up, it doesn't sound like jet engine either. It's a far quieter drive than the one before and I'm sure they replaced it for me. Musta been an automatic thing for all systems that come in for repair.

I gotta give props to their repair department. They're very fast and very good.

god damnit... I bought my 360 a month ago and I can most likely guarantee you I do NOT have the quieter drive. Doesn't really bother me but it woulda been nice to get the newer one.

Wonder if the new one gets those rare read errors too...

I play my 360 a bit, but I absolutely abuse the thing for watching HDDVDs and streaming TV eps...not a single problem besides:

- locking up when streaming stuff (a bug with TVersity more than the 360)
- I had display bugginess/artifacing when I re-set up my 360 after bringing it to someones house. Went away when I reset the resolution.

It's a launch model...it's funny, because I really, really want the damn thing break like everyone says it should, so I can get a "more realiable" and newer model...but it keeps on tickin.

I guess I should count myself lucky.

I have a launch model PS2 and SNES that both work like charms. Yeah you have more issues but there's still tons that work well. Then you can get a 360 a year later like me and have it be a POS that needs constant work.

That made me laugh because I'm in the same boat. It had better start having some problems before October so I can take it back to EB.

Although I've never had a problem with it being too noisy. I can never hear it over the volume.
