Obviously your country can turn down anyone it wants to, but turning people down for minor DUI or pot convictions doesn't seem to make much sense, particularly when from what I've heard, large parts of Vancouver still operate under a heavy cloud of green smoke on a pretty regular basis...

The pot laws throughout Canada (not just BC) are a lot looser than the US - that's not the issue. It's the US putting a great deal of pressure on Canada because they say a great deal of pot comes in through our borders - trust me, I've been listening to it for years now. Does it? Probably. I guess a drug conviction is as good a red flag as any. Blame your own government for these changes.

For the record, US customs have always been a hell of alot worse than anywhere else (including the borders) for non-citizens. The only way to avoid that crap is signing up for the scan system when flying (which i did) or this fast pass system when driving (i haven't yet).

Well, it is fine if you are white and going to the US, but if not, there's a problem. Canada doesn't have that sort of racial discrimination... In fact, Canada and Ireland are the only two European founded nations on the planet, that I can think of, that trust white people less than minorities (at least as far as foreigners go).

But I'm also currently a disenfranchised victim of political waste with no personal voice in the system and no connections even to the street gang outside, much less any publicly elected politicion. You can clearly see how much I bring to the table on issues like this.
