  • Nintendo of America HQ relocating back to New York City

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

Returning to their home in New York after a good 25 years. The article seems to just report that the move is going to be made, but doesn't give a reason. NoA has been located on the West Coast, in Redmond, since the early part of the 80's.

I can't guess the reason, maybe they just got sick of having Microsoft as a neighbour, but probably New York offers some advantages that Seattle doesn't.

This is odd. With their manufacturing facility and closeness to Japan, it would make no sense to move to New York unless they feel they can better serve the US market, which is their biggest one right now.

One way or the other, they'd have to keep their Redmond facilities open and keep in touch well. No real reason to move manufacturing. That's what makes this odd.

Well, the only major advantage I could see is greater access. Seattle is kind of tucked away in a little corner whereas New York is a center of Western civilization.

Well the Canadian HQ is just north over the border, so I can't say the move makes a load of sense. And the Nintendo center up here lacks manufacturing/production facilities (just logistics, warehouse, marketing and sales) - so who they will be depending upon now (if true), is pretty up in the air.

Some new information: the location in Seattle will remain open, they're opening up new head offices in both New York and Silicon Valley California. So this is more or less an expansion. There is a rumour that Harrison and Kaplan left the company when ordered to relocate, but these appear to be untrue.

It seems to be a move of finance, administration, and marketing than production. Again, not over sure why they feel it's an important move, but I guess they do

I read this as "following the success of the Wii over the holiday season, we're going to make a big push into the U.S."

They're not shutting down the current site, and 90% of the current staff is staying on at the old HQ. It's expansion. Good time to apply for a Nintendo job in publishing, if you want one.

Move from being an accountant to a pion at Nintendo? Nah, I'll just keep my gaming thing a hobby for now.

No, it's "pylon".

Like in StarCraft! "You must construct additional pylons!"

LOL at the thought of Zeus applying for a "pylon" job at Nintendo.

"What kind of position are you looking for?"

"Well, I'd like to be a pylon. Like, one of those things that holds up buildings."

"All righty then."

You must make Zeus' picture into a picture of a pylon. Like, right now.

Would you rather see a picture of an orange pylon there or that hot-ass chick?
