A web 2.0 take on videogame sales: http://www.vgchartz.com/

We've heard the numbers, but something I've learned from doing research for a few years is that it's much easier to digest trends and make comparisions visually. The charts take a long time to load, and sometimes fail, so try a few times. Some interesting comparisons:The x-axis is weeks since release (I think) date so that they all start at x=0.

That site is fake. They're not WAY off like some sites (Nexgenwars), but they're off by a good deal; for example, their Xbox 360 sales for North America are over a million units higher than what NPD records.

That's kinda funny...considering it's a well-known fact NPD doesn't report several large portions of the NA retail market, I'm a little surprised you want the 360 numbers to reflect the NPD numbers exactly...

No wait a minute...I'm not surprised.

You have an interesting definition of "fake." This sounds good enough to make broad comparisons and maybe start discussion.

Fake as in not real. That site (and all others like it) does not report real numbers, they make them up in order to get hits from naive gamers on the Internet.

NPD has Xbox 360 listed with 5.4 million sales total, whereas that site has the number at 6.5 million, over 1 million units off.

Which has already been explained by Kali O, thereby invalidating your argument. Or are you going to bother to read the rest of the thread?

It's just incredibly foolish if you think some ghetto website is accurate and an internationally well respected product sales research group, which has been around for decades, is not. NPD's numbers are very accurate, that is why they are the numbers which are quoted by all reputable sources (Reuters, Bloomberg, Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, IGN, etc...).
