  • Harvest Moon: Rune Factory, by far the best of the series

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

In short, I have a few hours of play on this game and I love it. Harvest Moon meets a story based RPG.
<img src="http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee27 ... t-moon.jpg">
Graphical style is very much like Chrono Trigger, but the quality is higher. Anime avatars are used for all characters in the game, and like the other Harvest Moon titles, there are no generic characters. Each character is represented by an avatar and there is some voice acting in the game as well.

SETTING: You are a young man finding yourself in a villarge within the Kingdom of Norad which borders the Empire of Sech. Like all previous Harvest Moon games, by far the largest demographic of the village (which makes up approximately 40% of the total population) are jailbait bitches which you can mack on, eventually one will get married to you and have your kids. This game contains both a maid and a nurse among others. Luckily you don't have to worry about the consequences, there are no cops in this town.
<img src="http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee27 ... -20060.jpg">
DIALOGUE: Unlike previous Harvest Moon games, this one is filled with plot-related events, and they are largely optional. This game seems to have TONS of dialogue packed into it. So far I have been trying to view all possible events because I am finding them quite entertaining the way the characters are developing.
<img src="http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee27 ... tory03.jpg">
BATTLE: Also, there is fighting and stats in this game, the fighting and battle system is similar to what you would expect from a Mana game. Though unlike Mana games, you can capture all types of monsters and force them to work for you, and even fight alongside you.
<img src="http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee27 ... cket/4.jpg">
MAKING CASH: Unlike previous Harvest Moon games, this one isn't just about farming either, though, I am not entirely sure, I only really read about the others and bought the original SNES one. This one has several methods of moneey making which include

THE BAR: Yes, yes you can buy alcoholic beverages here!

Yes, yes I fucking love this game, it's a great game for the DS, and totally re-invents the Harvest Moon series into something much much more than it previously was.

My DS has been collecting dust for the past 8 months... can someone fill me in as to what the Harvest Moon series is in general?

I ask because I vaguely remember a PC demo I played LONG LONG ago (probably about 10 years ago) where you would walk around on your farm... plant crops and build defenses, because when night came monsters would come out and attack and you'd have to fend them off before they killed all your livestock and such. I could never remember if it was actually called Harvest Moon or not but I think it might have been... can anyone confirm?

that sounds like it....it's a farming life sim....you farm woo the ladies and fight monsters in dungeons (This is the first one to actually have you fight monsters) quite a good game though. a few problems here and there with things but it is quite fun.

I don't think so, as far as I know it has only launched on Sony and Nintendo systems (there's been at least one Harvest Moon game released on every Sony and Nintendo system with the exception of NES).

It did sound like it... except as Chris mentioned this is the first game to fight monsters... and as far as Wiki says there's never been a PC release.

Musta been a different game... I've been on the look out for that game for about a decade now. Was really fun...

As for this game it sounds like fun... but knowing the amount of use I get out of my DS I'm considering just selling the thing if I could get a decent price for it.

Have either of you guys tried to catch any boss monsters?

One of the townspeople made a comment to me that made it sound like you could catch the bosses, but it was too late for me to try on the 1st cave.

I thought it wasn't possible to catch boss monsters.

Oh yeah, I am finding the second cave is a great place to mine. I have a level 3 hammer right now, it seems the stones in the back behind that gate heading directly upwards after entering the dungeon is the best place to go. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to open the gate, so I usually just run around the long way. I am not even sure if it can be opened. Either way, I made a half a million in about two and a half days of mining. I'm quite set.

I didn't think it was, but one of the townspeople said something to me about how it would be great to capture the boss monster. Maybe I misunderstood what he meant.

Have you guys been using the touch/record functionality? I love it.

I got all mine in the third cave. once you level your mining you start running into the specialty stones in caves that are 700 per level however in the third cave you find diamonds which are I think 950 per level. you can easily pul in a cool mil every couple days.....Howver I think my level ten crops growing in every dungeon for seed harvst purpose are nice.....get a full row of level ten seeds in your main farm let your monsters d the work...spend the day watering your 3 cave crps in the first 3 dungeons and then shazibby shazabby yer rlling in money and you don't have to take care of anything....especially since once you pet your monsters 10 times they are at full and can take care of the whole farm without you having to do anything but plant so my nights are dedicated to dungen crawling.......1 day till winter and all I need to do now is get me some ht wod so I can build a house

Does it still have the godawful time limits from the previous games, or can you play it at your leisure now?

Bwahahaha!

no time limits. if it takes you ten years to enlarge your house and mack a bitch then that's how long it takes. so really you do your chores.....hit on some jailbait 12 year olds (cet the asian......she of dinkin age...) but yeah....after doing chores and shit you can do what you like with dungeon crawling crafting and ther such nonsensical crap

The ne flaw with the game I have s far is that each person only has a few lines of dialogue and it repeats over and over so it has started to get a little stale in that department

Yeah, I wish there was more dialouge based on the time of day and stuff like that, but that's a pretty small complaint on my part.

I'm enjoying the cave exploring a lot and I always love the farming aspect. My next goal is to capture a wolf to ride around. :)

I am mining in the third dungeon now, getting fairly good stuff. It is a bit lower than the silver mine in the second dungeon (due to getting a lot of bronze, iron, and fire crystals) but it is less time consuming...... So...... getting 2000 wood might be an issue =p

not really. just get a large egg for the egg festival and do a god job n the book search and you can usually get it over the span of a mnth...once I got enough money buiilt up I stopped mining altogether and now I just go into the second dungeon where I have a plot of untilled soil and I hack the 4 or 5 trees that grow every day in the second third and fourth dungeons...in all cases my hacking spots are a ll at the entrance so I can get 15-20 stumps a day usually as I let my garden get destroyed by theelements and just have logs now

Cash doesn't seem to be a problem in the game, I have been trying to get relationship meters up. I am considering either Bianca or Tabatha as my #1 hoe (Speaking of which, I love the wording they use when speaking about hoes in this game, I think the writers had fun with that =P)

I am going with Tabatha, I think. As soon as I found out that she was an elf, I was like "heck yeah." I want an interracial marriage. haha
