Just finished Dead Rising on the "true ending" in overtime mode (actually the credits are still rolling). A better story than I expected, the ending kinda sucked and leaves you hanging... but the game itself was very good once I got the hang of HOW to play. Once you get to a certain level / point in the game the whole save system doesn't really phase anymore... there are plenty of places by then to save... I just think the beginning is a little jarring.

Thanks to Kali who (most likely unintentionally) gave me the push to try the game again.

Sine-- give it another go; just do what I did and try to save as few survivors as necessary... I think I ended up saving about 25 total. Definitely didn't get the 50 survivors achievement this time around but that wasn't the point.

I'm evil....on my last playthrough I got to the start of day 3 before I died.....how did I do it? I rescued everyone and let them die on the way back....the dying cinematics run the gamut from kinda boring (piling on) to gross ( Intestine eating) to hilarious (when a guy gets killed by a chick zombie it's 69tastic) quite hilarious some of the crap I've ended up seeing. next time I might actually play through seriously rater than playing with stupid conditions I put on myself.....the one I did yesterday was soccerballs only....I made it to the middle of the second day....hehe

Yes, I've seen quite a few undead 69s in the game. In fact, it seems like all of the undead chicks in the game were hookers when they were alive, so they are always relying on their instincts.

I'm on Day 2 right now. I'm still kinda annoyed at how fast the game is going. You don't really have any time at all to do much beyond the main plot, and when I go around try to rescue people, their fucked up pathing always kills me or them. (For example, they don't trigger automatic doors at all, and then they don't understand that you can go through an opened window.) Also, their lack of aggressiveness is really really annoying, too.

I still think that the rescue operations are by far the worst aspect of the game. I am avoiding as much zombies as possible, and they are trying to figure out a way to jump INTO a crowd of zombies. Of course, I never have enough weapons or the proper ones to kill off 30 zombies, and they end up dying on me.

(Nevermind the one where I give this wounded guy a gun and he promptly blows his head off...)

BTW, is there any possible way of saving the very first 15 or so people as the zombies come into the mall?

No there isn't (saving the first 15 people).

Survivor AI definitely needed improvement... I basically have to kill most zombies or just spam Y to get them through.

Best weapon-- small chainsaws. Kill the clown in Wonderland ASAP and his small chainsaws will always spawn at the ride. Get the engineering book and criminal methodology books (First is in Paradise Plaza, 2nd is in bookstore right next to ride) and you'll never need another weapon (except ranged on occassion)

I'm not gonna say the Survivor AI doesn't need work...it does. BUT (and this is a big but):

As I've already said, part of the issue revolves around the fact that this game isn't designed for a single play through (levels/exp, multiple endings, time limit, etc). It's a concept people have trouble adjusting to...

Many of the "extras" (survivors, convicts, all plot lines, etc) are designed to be HARD for a maxed level experienced player. Trying to do them your first playthrough will be tough at the very least - more likely frustrating. Running into a crowd of zombies to save a trapped survivor (which will happen even with Trigger+Y) is gonna be a tough task without the unlocked moves at higher levels.

If you are new to the game and low level - go run around the underground parkade for a bit and tell me how it feels/works out :) Try it again at a higher level and more experienced - totally different deal. That's just the kinda game Dead Rising is.

And to Tess, yes, I'm glad you gave it it another shot (that's the whole reason I defended the game). As far as I'm concerned, Dead Rising is probably the best new franchise to come out this gen so far.

the cultists storyline was fun... albeit frustrating.

The first time I killed their leader I was fighting the last few remaining cultists and the LAST F'ing ONE knocks me out... pissed me off :P That and attempting to save 5 people at once afterwards... 2 made it back safely.

I believe I started this round as level 6-8... I ended up at 38 being able to do most everything by the end (chainsaws are my friends) but I do now want to go back and max to 50 just for the hell of it.

Oh-- and infinite mode, IS that savable or not? Guides I've read say no, but when you start the game it just mentions you'll be saving over any other games.
