  • Phantom Hourglass puts the fun back into Zelda games

  • Because playing them is not enough, we have to bitch about them daily, too. We had a Gameplay forum, but it got replaced by GameFAQs.

I played for about an hour today and I must say that I am having a great deal of fun with the title. The game utilizes the DS very well, and feels much more fresh than I recall any Zelda game feeling in a very very long time. I am only a short distance into the game, but if it continues at this pace, it is certainly going to be a game I recommend over Twilight Princess unless you are one of those players who can only play with serious looking graphics (this one is Wind Waker style).

Impressions I've read are mixed, which I find depressing. Apparently it's very, very easy — have you found this to be the case, Seek?

It's no Master Quest, but if you don't find Link to the Past too easy, then you won't find this one too easy. It is fairly standard Zelda difficulty (so far). As for reviews, IGN DS and Gamespot both gave the game extremely favourable reviews. Gamespot gave it a more favourable review and score than Twilight Princess. According to Game Rankings, about 77% of the reviews scored it above 90%, so I would say that it is being generally very well received.

Twilight Princess had some amazing moments, but this game is solid fun; whereas Twilight Princess didn't have that element as a constant (I was mostly dissapointed that Twilight Princess didn't feel as much like a dark faery-tale as it should have). This is a Zelda game that, despight not having the same power available graphically as a lot of the other Zelda games, really pushes things to a new and fresh level. I'll play through the game for a while longer before I say anything for certain, my opinion on games has taken a 180 before from my initial impressions to later opinions, though I don't think it will be the case with this one.

Ah, so that's where the Zelda team has been stashing their fun all these years!

Jesus, Blotus, you're getting almost as snarky, bitter, and cynical as I am.

I did, actually. A lot. That was just a sarcastic note related to the thread title.
